Component 480i will have nicer colours, but S-Video will actually give a sharper image.

Here's a comparison screenshot. Component (480i), S-Video and then composite. Too bad I can take a 480p screenshot for the best quality.

Component should give you a sharper image as well, since it's higher bandwidth. What you're seeing is the difference in the the quality of the component and s-video input electronics on your specific model display.

and possibily a little ringing, from said differences in electronics.

Output from my GC and recorded with my Philips DVDR985 DVD recorder. Then took a screen cap playing back the DVD directly on the PC.

DVI is for audio only? Do you know what the acronym stands for?

5 =/= 5.5.

And i stand by my statement that TOSlink is for audio only.

Only inferior audio.

Oh yeah, I went there and i stand by my statement.

Its just too bad that they didn't use a real fiber interface for digital transmission.

ATOT needs a good TOSlink vs. coax thread.

I'm definitely not an audiophile, but how is TOSlink inferior to coax?

teehee.....and so it has begun.

TOSlink is severely bandwidth limited (one can find the specs on the transmitters at toshiba.com...TOSlink) when compared to coax - bandwidth and length.

But for all intents and purposes there is literally no difference for most. If you get down to the nitty gritty coax > TOSlink. Will consumer gear ever realize it? probably not.

RF - Worst (its your cable wire)
Composite (its the yellow one, 3 colors are put into one wire)
S - Video (those three are now split into 2)
Component (they are 3 seperatre wires now, can be used for HD)

those are the standard most common ones from worst to best. Even if its not HD its still better looking than s video
