non-floppy hard drive diagnostic software?

I'm looking for some software that will test my hard drive on my notebook to see if there are any errors or problems. My laptop doesn't have a floppy drive and all the ones I've found need to be run from a floppy when the computer is turned on

Run Scandisk or Checkdisk

Download Norton Utilities trial and use Norton Disk Doctor.

In all cases, run SURFACE test to get it to perform a physical test rather than just the file-system integrity test.

can you not burn the floppy image onto a cdr?

The whole question is backwards If you don't want to put it on a floppy, don't. You are going to DOWNLOAD it first, right, not get from someone on a floppy disk?

And yep, you can make a bootable CD if you must.
