The BoSox lineup is going to be downright scary. And they have two #1 starters..

Look out Yankees.
And a decent closure. Of course this is the Red Sox we are talking about and they will find a way to lose in the end, they always do.

Yeah, Foulke is a very important pickup.
Although they do want to get rid of Williamson, too.

To me, these rumors and trade talks are more exciting than watching baseball itself. 😉

Seems like it, right?
I feel bad fans of those teams who are not involved with any trades or who are not picking up any free agents.

So the outfield would be: Trot/Damon/Ordonez
Infield: Mueller/Arod/some 2nd baseman/Millar/Tek (DH Ortiz)

Hitting lineup:

Damon
Mueller
Ordonez
Arod
Ortiz
Millar
Nixon
Varitek
2nd baseman

Starting rotation: Pedro/Schill/Lowe/Wakefield/Kim

man.. with the addition of ARod, Curt Schilling, and Magglio and with the lack of Manny, it sure is gonna be hard for me to root against the RedSox next year... Arod is the best player in baseball no question, i've always liked him... I've always liked Magglio and have always HATED manny.. Manny is a whining baby.. that's all there is to it...

Like the *cough* dodgers *cough*. I really doubt they'll get Nomar. I think the Angels are far more likely to get him and they have more starting pitching to offer (Washburn & Ortiz come to mind).

Makes sense, they need to dump Nomar when they add A-Rod on. It's funny, people talked all day up and down about how the Yankees buy championships when the Yanks beat the Red Sox in Game 7. How is this any different? They're trying to wheel and deal to get the "best" team possible. No more lamer than the Yankees.

Red Sox wont be spending much more than last year, less than the yankees.

But you guys just got Jeff Weaver!!!
We are talking about Jeff "Ohgodpleasedon'thitmynextpitch" Weaver!!

When Jeff gives up his first long ball of the season, don't worry, there will be a lot more where that came from.

Its a great time to be a baseball in Chicago.

WhiteSox need a better product to keep up the fan base with the cubs.

Jeff Weaver, Robin Ventura, Juan Encarnacion... yeah, I hope you guys can somehow swing Nomar into the mix.

Several thoughts -

Weaver can pitch -won 17 with the Tigers, which is no small feat - he'll be much better off in the NL and out of NY.

Encarnacion is much better than Jordan was - they should be improved - I'm assuming they are going to play Ventura at 1b, and Green in RF, with Roberts in CF and Encarnacion in LF - that is an improvement from last year.

Also, Dodger fan, you are blessed with the 2 best pitching prospects in ALL of major league baseball, so you have plenty of pitching depth to deal from. If you could deal O.Perez and somehow end up with Nomar that would be quite a feat!

I'll be honest, I'm not sold that the Red Sox are doing much more than PR in this latest round of trades. ARod and Ordonez, if true, aren't much better than Manny and Nomar - are they? Perhaps a bit more power, but lower batting avg...though getting rid of Manny helps in the clubhouse too...I'm not 100% sold that Texas would keep Manny around, though he and Hart at least have a positive relationship.

Foulke is a nice addition for the Red Sox - so much for the committee approach!

Vasquez and Brown, to go with Mussina, still give the Yanks a formidable top 3, and NY has also beefed up its middle relief, which was a weakness last year.

The AL East will again be the premier division in all of baseball, with Toronto improved and Baltimore, which has already added Tejada, looking to add Guererro and Lopez or Pudge, the division only grows stronger...

What is the Yanks payroll up to now anyway? Is 200Mill far off?

Yah but who are we going to trade for a crappy run down stadium with vines and lots of beer. 🙂

Weaver used to be able to pitch, but he did well on a bad team. He had one and a half season of pretty putrid pitching. He would do fine for a few innings but then totally collapse just as soon as anything would go wrong. And it wasn't like he was on a team that didn't give him run support. He has talent and good stuff, for the sake of Dodger fans I hope he can get his act together.

No, not quite up to $200 million yet but getting fairly close.

Wow man the Yankees would be in trouble if they got Ordonez... 🙁

The Yankees payroll will probably be around $225 million?

If the trade goes through.... how do they plan to sign everyone after next season? Pedro, Varitek, Lowe, who else?

Those are the main ones... and Pedro is getting his deal this spring, not next season. Nothing alarming, overall cap may raise slightly. Just imagine if they spent as much as the Yankees, and could keep Nomar and Todd Walker *drool*****

Drool is right. I liked Todd Walker and really wished they had the money to keep him as well as the other Red Sox.

Hell yes!

Todd Walker should have been resigned. I cannot stress how much we overpaid Keith Foulke. The guy choked against us for goodness sake. :frown:

Trade Manny Ramirez, trade Nomar Garciaparra, for Alex Rodriguez. I like both Manny and Nomar but they don't have the leadership that Arod possesses.

Resign Trot Nixon, Jason Varitek, David Ortiz to long term contracts.

Get rid of Gabe Kapler and Jeremy Giambi, Byung Hyun Kim, John Burkett, Scott Williamson, Ramiro Mendoza, and Todd Jones.

Possible 2004 opening day roster.

Johnny Damon
Bill Mueller
Alex Rodriguez
David Ortiz
Juan Gonzalez?? (if he comes cheap)
Trot Nixon
Kevin Millar
Bill Mueller
Mark Bellhorn 😕

Starting rotation

Pedro Martinez
Curt Schilling
Derek Lowe
Tim Wakefield
??

Setup - Timlin
Closer - Foulke

Like I said in an earlier thread, Foulke isn't overpaid, he got 7mil/year and saved 43/45 games. Yes one was blown against the A's, but that was after a 12 pitch battle with Manny blasting a shot to left to tie the game. You can't fault him for that, Manny is a great hitter.

Look at the salary of a couple of other good closers:

Wagner is getting 8 mil, had 44 saves last season. Perceival is getting 7.83 and had 33 saves w/ injury.
Foulke signed for less than both.

In your lineup you listed Mueller twice, and Boston's getting Ordonez not Juan Gone. If Sox still have Kim he will probably be 5th starter over Burkett.
