This is the new Zen Jukebox that will be released in just a few days. Retail on this is 299.99 so you save about 45 bucks. Shipping for me was $18 next day air. My order looked like this.

10353231 NOMAD JUKEBOX ZEN NX 30GB MP3 PORTABLE AUDIO PLAYER W/ HEADPHONES 1 255.99 $255.99
10346884 24 month Replacement Plan 1 17.99 $17.99

Subtotal $273.98
Shipping & Handling
(Next Day: 1 day) $18.97
Tax $0.00
Total $292.95

I added the 24 month replacement plan for 18 bucks becase if your item fails at any time due to normal use within 24 months after the manufacturer's warranty expires, you will receive a Gift Certificate for the original purchase price of the product (excluding tax). You will need to keep a copy of your original receipt and will be given the location to send your defective product with all original package materials.

So all said and done I paid 7 bucks less than retail. No Tax in Oklahoma and I got a 2 year extended warranty. Reading some of the previews around the net on the Creative Zen NX just make this look like a good deal.

anyone know what the actual battery life one can expect on a zen?

I had a jukebox for a while and the battery life was pathetic... usually 2 or 3 hours at best.

Quote from site. The NOMAD Jukebox Zen sports a 14 hour replaceable, rechargeable Li-Ion battery for extra convenience and longer playback time.

Here's a product Link.

14hours replacable lithion - nice

I like the price of the Zen MX, but it's still heftier then the Ipod and lacks the nice interface.

The new Toshiba MP3 player is looking sleek

BTW - techdepot.com has the ZenMX for $271 + 7 shipping too

The Zen NX is a bit smaller and lighter than the old Zen 2.0, I think creative is getting pretty close. I just wish they had a better interface. I mean feature wise the interface is better than the IPOD, IMHO, but the layout could use some work. Also I'm unclear why in the world creative would go with a light green backlight. I mean one thing the IPOD has ruled on is their backlight and high quality contrast screen. All minor gripes aside. The Creative Nomad Zen NX is the same storage, 30 gig, as a $500 IPOD. So I think for 50% less I can deal without the backlight and a slightly less advanced interface.

The Toshiba is Ok. But it's release date is October and that's for Japan. Who knows the US release date.

The Zen MX does use a different interface than the original Zen. I haven't used it (obviously) but reviews I've read note that it is an improvement.

From what I hear, this MP3 player is one of the best for sound quality.

For some reason, most of the reviews I have seen always overlook sound quality for portable mp3 players. For me, this is one of the most important features. Especially, if you are going to hook your mp3 player to different systems (Home theatre, high quality headphones, car audio, etc.).

The Zen NX has a 98db Signal to Noise ratio, which is very respectable.

I'm going to wait until late this year/early next year to try to find the 20GB Zen NX for under $200 (AR/AC).

That review says the Toshiba player will have Microsoft's DRM built-in...YUCK!

I have one of these bad boys, got it at Best Buy just last week (they had a whopping 3 in stock..). The UI, for me, is nice. I like quick, menu driven, and once you get used to using the jogdial, it's almost like second nature. I like the concept of being able to create/save a playlist on the fly for later use, something the IPOD has lacked, from what I've heard. The green backlight doesn't really bother me much, either..

Also, I haven't seen any issues w/ playing my mp3's, so I can't speak to the DRM. It doesn't seem to be a problem, though.

One thing to note, though: IF you have problems with yours, and call Creative (as I am right now), there is only a limited amount of what they can do for you. So, any extended warranties you can get, I'd recommend doing (I got one from BB).
