NOMAD II 0MB ->128mb new firmware

This is probably considered warm but I found the real 64MB Nomad II (not the less expensive IIc) at Staples.com for $149.90. You can add an inexpensive item such as a staple remover to bring the price over $150 then use the $30 off $150 coupon. You will get free shipping too since it's over $50.

If you want the Nomad IIc (only difference I see is this model is missing the FM tuner), Officedepot.com has it for $113.95 and you can apply the $20 off $75 coupon.

I bought a Nomad II Refurb at Fry's in Anaheim Hills 2 weeks ago for $59.99. It came in a white box and contained the following: USB Cable, 32MB Smartmedia Card and Driver CD. I flashed it with the latest firmware and bought a 128MB Smartmedia card from newegg and it has been working great!

Man, that closeout deal is the one I want to find. I've been looking for a MP3 player that's small enough to take while working out and that has an FM tuner. This Nomad II seems to fit the bill.

Anyone have experience with these at all?

Aaron

Funny to see this, as I was just searching for an MP3 player with an FM tuner.
I found at Frys (Manhattan Beach) C stock refurbs for $59.
They have 2 left, the boxes were opened, but everything looked in order.
Don't know if you will find these at any other Frys.
You get the Nomad, a 32MB card, a USB cable and software.
No headphones or remote control.

This thing is great for this price, just need to find a good price on a 128MB SM card now.

Yep, the ones at Frys are Nomad II's with the tuner.

I would guess the price would last while they have them.
They did look to be almost out.

The description of the firmware upgrade says that it adds support for more brands of SmartMedia memory cards. Which ones work well with it?

I called the Anaheim, CA Fry's to verify right now and they said they have plenty of this 32MB Nomad II in stock for $59.99. The Fountain Valley, CA Fry's has no stock.

When it says it is a 64MB unit. Does that mean it includes a 64MB SmartMedia card and the best you can do is swap it out with a 128MB, or does that mean it has 64MB onboard and you can add a 128MB SmartMedia bringing it to 192MB?

Man, no Fry's here in FL. Anyone buying an extra one to sell by any chance? 🙂

Aaron

EDIT: I'd also be interested in a trade, if someone wanted to pick one of these up for me. I have a Happague WinTV USB and a Sony RMAV-2100 remote. PM me if interested.

I got the docking station for my NomadII at Buy.com waaaay back in the day. I haven't seen anyone carry it online in quite some time.

Creative has the refurb'd 32mb version for 59.99 and the refurb'd 0mb version for 49.99. See them here. They don't have any of the docking stations left. I bought one from them last year for about $16 shipped.

Wow. I agree. Nice find. Thanks.

Anyone know the main difference between the Nomad II and the Nomad MG? I assume they're both upgradable with a smartmedia card, and both have an FM tuner. Any reason to go with the MG for double the money, besides the nice looking magnesium case?

Also, is either one of these smaller/better for taking to the gym or on a run?

Aaron

Creative is selling Refurbished Nomad Jukebox for $149 and nomad II 0MB for 49.
there was a thread here earlier
