I didn't see any threads about it. Are Anandtechers excited about this new handheld multifunction game deck? It comes out on October 7th. Check it out on N-Gage.com. Discuss...

I made a thread a while back, but interest is limited. It's $299 for those interested and to me seems to have graphics not too far short of a playstation 1. It has bluetooth wireless local multiplay gaming. Additionally it functions as a cellphone and an MP3 player. Tech wise it clearly destroys a gameboy, but then it's also 3x the cost, and I suspect certain things in it - at least the cellphone functionality - would be of little use to many. I already have a cellphone, so I'd rather pay less for a streamlined version of the ngage. Dito for mp3.

I have a few issues with it:

- Too expensive
- Too few games
- All the games are ports based on others. Nothing original.
- The screen is nearly half the size of the GameBoy
- Looks silly to use as a phone in public
- Totally crappy that you have to take it apart to change games.
- Button layout looks horrible.

Also has some PDA type functions, like a calendar, notes, address book type stuff.

And uses SD cards up to 128MB for MP3s and such.

Also, a voice recorder.

It may be a good deal if you're looking to buy all of the above.

My thoughts

Anything that makes me remove the battery pack to change a game and then wait a long long time to boot up is a waste of time.. not some extreme gaming system that will destroy all comes.

I'm just waiting for them to build in multiplayer capabilities across a cell phone connection, hopefully I'll see it someday :)
