It's on the Samsung galaxy app store (or whatever the hell it's called now).

I had to re-enable it just to try it out, they should have put it on the play store. :(

It's exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy Store for a short time, that's why it's not on the Play Store. Timed exclusive I believe.

I got it yesterday and have Europe, Australia & USA/Canada downloaded. Covers 90+% of my projected travel over the next 2 years. It's a better solution for me than Google Maps.

It seems pretty good. There's things that I prefer about Google maps and paid solutions better, but this hits a nice spot in that it's offline and has the polish that a lot of other free solutions lack.

Its definitely worth the price of admission. ;)

Saves the maps to the SDcard as well, which is nice.

Is this for Galaxy phones only or for tablets as well? I searched yesterday from my tablet and it wasn't there.

Now I click on Samsung Galaxy Apps, and......

It runs a new program called Galaxy Apps which is separate from the Hub.
So why did I need to update the Hub?

It should work on all Androind 4.1+ devices. I tried it on a few with no problems so far.

And its not available.

Great.
Sorry Shorty I shouldn't laugh but...

So is this from Microsoft Nokia or Nokia Nokia?

Isn't that exclusive deal with Microsoft running out soon? Could we see lots more Nokia cross platform apps and maybe some Nokia android hardware?

There is no exclusivity deal with Here Maps on Windows Phone. This is Nokia Nokia they kept their maps division, Nokia Networks, and a whole slew of patents that keeps Nokia Networks running. Microsoft paid to license Here Maps for every Windows Phone from the remnants of Nokia for 4 years.

Yeah the "Nokia Nokia" and "Microsoft Nokia" thing always throws me, TBH I'll be glad when Microsoft stop using Nokia as a brand and market under their own name.

Any idea why it taken them so long to port the app to android (and presumably iOS soon) if they were free to do so?

They had no incentive to because they were still selling Windows Phone devices? Their maps are great and free high quality maps, navigation, and public transit info was a reasonable selling point. Granted Android and iOS have Google Maps but at the time their mapping software was not their core business.

That was "Microsoft Nokia" not "Nokia Nokia" though wasn't it? (this is giving me a headache)

No, that was still Nokia Nokia but with a huge "bribe" from Microsoft.... So that might have stopped them too.

The sale went through last spring. Before that there was only Nokia Nokia. Before that sale happened their interests were directly tied with the success of the Windows Phone platform. Sale goes through, suddenly they are not tied to the platform and their maps division begins producing Android and iOS apps. Where is there any confusion here, before the sale they were trying to push their phone platform using their mapping software. Post sale they have an agreement with Microsoft to license maps for 4 years and have no interest in which platform succeeds so they produce for all of them.

Meh.

Uninstalled it. Keeps running in the background at all times and it I couldnt get my contacts to show up in it.

I'll check it out later when its out of beta, for now I'll stick with copilot for offline and Google Maps for online.

Here navigation is kind of limited, you can't really change routes like you can with gmaps (at least not on the WP version). The only real selling point is the offline capabilities which are nice.
