Noiseless Leadtek 6800GT?

Hi,

I just ordered a Zalman Reserator 1 + GWB1 and a Leadtek 6800GT video card a week ago. I was planning to replace the fan on the 6800GT card with the GWB1, but I just learned that the GWB1 doesn't fit on the 6800 cards :( Then I began looking for other waterblocks that might fit a 6800 card, but THEN I learned that Leadtek has strayed from the reference design so the holes on the card are not where they are supposed to be :(

So now I'm completely lost. I'm sleeping right next to my machine so I need it to be noiseless. From what I've read so far concerning the 6800GT cards the Leadtek is supposed to be the most silent model, but how silent is that? And if it's not noiseless, what are my options for making it? Do I have to return it and order a 6800GT reference design card?

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Don't laugh, but, turn off your computer before you go to sleep. ;)

Unless it's running your life support system or something.. :p

Hehe, that's the easy solution ;)

Seriously, I don't want to hear it when I'm sitting next to it either :)

LOL, just funnin :)

Umm, I have heard that the Artic Silencer (NV5) is pretty quiet. Not silent, but quieter than the stock cooler. But I don't know if that will work as you said Leadtek strayed from the reference design and the holes may not line up.
And you can check Zalman's site as well for a fanless solution. I dont think you can go fanless however. These new gen cards pump out quite a lot of heat to be passively cooled. The only fanless 6800 I have seen is from Gainward I believe. That was a 6800nu IIRC.

This might call for some serious customization. Wish I could help more.

I think you're right about going fanless, I'm pretty sure that won't work out.. I wish I could find a waterblock that'll fit..

:Q

i know the feeling, I used to leave my tornado fans on in my old case, had 2 (55db each), when i slept, computer was in the same room with me, then i bought a sonata and the thing (to me) was silent. did not sleep well without my tornado fans, but now im used to the sonata, heck, it has even started to sound loud, maybe i need to stick a tornado in it to remind me..

Bateluer and Schadenfroh.. While I'm amused by your answers they don't really offer much help ;)

Are there any waterblock that'll fit on a Leadtek 6800GT or are there anyone who knows the distance between the holes on the card?

I Googled that a Koolance GPU-180-L06 should fit on a Leadtek 6800GT card. Can anyone confirm/deny this?
