Local reservoir has it right - on one side of the dam you can have as much HP and noise as you want. On the other, electric trollers only.

Keep both groups happy.

As much as I hate people being told what to do, I also hate noise when I'm trying to relax.

I say more power to them.

I can go either way on the noise issue in general... I'm currently on my 4th jetski, and as much as I love cruising around @ 60 on it, I'll admit that they can be a bit loud when you're not the one doing the riding. (although the skis made in the last 5-6 years are significantly quieter than older models) As for the cigarette boats that you can hear from 4 miles away, yes, that's a bit much too.

Unfortunately, as usual, they've gone a bit far. For instance, they are classifying jetskis and airboats in the same category. Give me a break. And of course the obligatory "banning" them from their new "quieter" lakes. Ironically, no mention of quieting jetskis down to fit their needs, just the idea of putting them in their own lake. Very fair and reasonable. :disgust:

My parents have a 4 stroke jetski and that thing is whisper quiet and crazy fast too. I'm sure as the years go by jetskis will be quieting down, unless someone mods their machine.

A little bit of muffler won't hurt anybody that bad. Lose a few HP, sure. But I'm for mufflerizing. That site is extremist though.

Ditto Harley-Davidsons!

I'd like to see them try to pull this off at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. 100s of boats running open headers plus thousands of Jet Ski's. Thankfully the populace there is all about having a good time and want as little influence from the law as possible.

Our family owns both a sailboat and a ski boat, and the local lake is filled with people waterskiing/sailing/having a blast..I actually think it would suck without any powerboats. Something about the sound is nice to me. Then again its not really a kick back and relax kind of lake.

right cause putting a muffler on your two-stroke would make it impossible for you to go fishing.

if you think about it, it would probably help not scare the fish away.

The Atlantic Ocean is big enough that I can paddle my kayak in relative silence and only occasionally is my "peace" disturbed by the sound of powered watercraft.

Quite frankly, I'm more concerned with getting HIT by hotdogging boaters/jetskiiers who don't see me than I am concerned about the noise they make.

Heh. That lake can get nuts down by the Grand Glaize bridge during the summer. Huge swells from all the boats. But its a big lake, and you can still find places to relax. I grew up there, and it's a lot different than it used to be.
