Noise = Bad for CPU

I am going to be upgrading my pc to a much faster processor and I want to make sure that there is sufficient cooling in this case. The problem I run into is that everything that cools eficiently is so noisy. Is there any way of insulating the case or doing osmething to help keep down the noise. Any insight would be appreciated.

I have an AMD 1700+ processor with retail heatsink fan and 1 case fan. My CPU is at 38ºC, 41ºC peek. When my CD-ROM spins up it's about twice as loud as all my fans.

I have a dragon orb3 that i hav etried and pulled out because it is so loud. i have been wanting to put it back in but it is just to loud for my taste. if i insulate the case will that hurt cooling. how would i go about doing this?

An Alpha 8045 heatsink and a Panaflo fan will be an extremely quiet combination that cools very decently (but you'll have to check that your SockA board will fit the Alpha heatsink).

i already have the dragon orb3. my question is only how can i insulate my case so that it will cut down on the noise? is this possible?

Yes you can insulate it, but it won't help THAT much. Try looking at 2cooltek, they have some sound dampening stuff. You could probably get the same kind of stuff from Lowe's or Home Depot. Honestly the easiest thing would be to get another HSF. A decent Cooler Master one will be quiet and will cool nicely. If you are NOT overclocking then you don't need all these expensive HSF's.

OK maybe I will just get a new heatsink fan. This Dragon Orb just looked so cool. But the noise is not dealable for me. Thanks for the help.

i use the stuff from 2CoolTek, and it's better than nothing, but not perfect. i didn't notice any difference in case, CPU, or chipset temps after sealing the case with the foam.

You could probably just line the case with some type of carpet. Not the kind you have in your living room but more like the kind you would find in a school or office. That would likely work pretty well if you did it right. I have heard of people doing it but never bothered to do it myself.

yea that is very trus when yo have alot of cooling there is alot of noise and there is not much you can do about it other then just stand it or just take out all the cooling.I have seen somestuff on some sites that they put some type of padding on the side of the case slides on the inside parts and that gives a good noise level and they seem to be satisfied/I am pretty sure some on here has seen one of those things.Maybe you can check out that hting.I would get it if i was you.I personally do not mind the sound thou.
