Indeed, Hacp.

Perhaps you would care to explain how Conservatives intended to pay for all the off the books war expenses and the prescription drug benefit plan aka the largest unfunded liability in the history of this nation?

Surely such an epic fail has a simple rebuttal.

Cut everything to the bone. Then cut some more. Then cut more. Finally, cut more.

Until there is a popular vote on every bit of legislation, politicians are, by definition, authoritarians. They "lead", we the people submit.

The tax on sugary sodas should be equal to the cost of manufacturing and distributing them. Then add a recycling fee on while you're at it.

It's a sad state of affairs, when you can walk into a Walmart and buy two 2-liter bottles of Sam's Choice soda for about a buck fifty (~$0.78/bottle), but a gallon of milk is almost $3.00!!

you really can't compare the two. one is made the other produced.

also milk was kept artificially high for a very long time.

The problem with all taxes, especially sin and consumption taxes is as soon as the government gets a taste of the money they will never ever give it up, like crack addict. If all the government cared about was "health" they would put a minimum price of it, not a tax. Or at the very least the tax would reduce other taxes on a dollar for dollar basis.

I dont know about the US, but milk in Canada is done by like 3 companies, all brand name. It would be more fair to compare milk to brand name coke.

How do you make sure all the farmers aren't all growing the food that fetches the highest price (maximizing profits) and when it comes time to sell to market, the price plummets thus bankrupting them?
Probably the same way the US deals with it.

This is totally fucked that people are now saying corn is unhealthy. Since when? I'm going to freak out if people decide peas and carrots are evil as well.
