This is one of the most respected AV products. I myself paid a full price to protect all household computers. Unless you're a student this is the best price I've ever seen for this great product.

I prefer to pay nothing (always the best deal) for http://www.activevirusshield.c...virus/freeav/index.adp
which I found on this forum. It's a watered-down kaspersky which is at least as good as NOD. I find that I turn off all the extras anyway since they slow stuff down immensely. In addition, I don't surf those kind of sites that require you to have all that stuff on. Also, with a double firewall (wireless router, XP/Vista internal), intrusion detection components are not necessary.

My 2cents...

BTW, they'll have a Vista version coming out any day according to CNet.

I have been paying for NOD for 2 years and it's been great, not a single virus incident and had never crashed (unlike Norton...). Reading the reviews from several antivirus comparison sites, Kaspersky does the best job at detecting Virus of all, however NOD is amount the top few and universally accepted as the one that use the least CPU cycle. Last year they raise their price to 39.99 per year from 29.99, if I remembered correctly. and I might turn to the AOL one if they do it again. But this deal will keep me with them for this year's upgrade I guess.

And they often pricematch competitor coupons. OfficeMax has a $20 off $50 coupon. They pricematched it for me.

My total came to $65 with $80 in rebates. lol I made $15 buying Kaspersky Internet security.

My local OfficeMax/Office Depots are terrible at matching competitor's prices. Hell, they don't even accept their own coupons.

I picked up a copy of KIS for free after rebates from Staples two weeks ago to test out (as my license for NOD32 will expire soon). It seemed a lot more bloated and heavy on resources than NOD32. Also, reading reports of stuff lke this happening with KAV turned me completely off the program.

Of course an internet security suite (with firewall, antispam, etc) is going to be more bloated than just an antivirus. But, Kaspersky does an excellent job of keeping it as lean as possible with as many features that it has. (KiS is very light compared to say Norton Internet Securities or Mcafee's security suite).

With KiS, you can pick to install just the antivirus component (KiS is very modular) during a custom install and it (KiS with just the antivirus installed) uses a very small amount of system resources and has zero bloat with only the antivirus component installed.

LOL! You might want to rethink your so called protection....Router offers some...but the MS one is saddly not worth the code it's written with...

Thanks for the heads up on that. I've been out of security so long that I forgot to be paranoid! The best security is the 'don't turn on your pc' policy. Maybe I've been lucky or maybe the combination I decribed really works (for the most part). There's always going to be some situation where you're not 100% secure...that's the nature of computers and unfortunately, the world we live in.

That being said, I really did not have any idea that XP SP2 firwall was such a piece of junk. I'm going to try that Comodo product. Heck it's free and it was on the top of the list! Good stuff.
