Not to make light of a loss of a life, but...

It's kinda sad that such weekend is even a thing, and that it's considered an achievement if it works out.

More to the point it makes the times that people are killed look even worse if they wouldn't have happened if it was "don't shoot your neighbour in the face day" and you would have got a sticker for not killing someone!

Wishful thinking from fucking retards that don't understand how their own society works? Check.

Let's try this with Chicago and see if it happens? Oh it fails there too? Well at least you tried, I guess we can all chip in, pull in some more community taxes that go to waste and buy us a consolation prize trophy

The thought is nice but Calling for a ceasefire weekend is the equivalent of sending good thoughts to a cancer victim... pretty useless. The kids commiting the murders need opportunities, parental involvement and Jobs, not good thoughts.

Zero fucks given. That's the cost of doing business. If they don't like going to funerals, they should pick a different business.

Baltimore is going at this the wrong way. Instead of preaching against violence they should have a Purge weekend. Fence off a 5 square block area, evacuate the civilians, round up all the gang members and drop them inside on Friday night. They can shoot whoever they want up until midnight Sunday, no questions asked, no charges filed. Maybe the problem will solve itself.Get them all taken care of in one fell swoop.

150 deaths and we still have 4 months left till the new year, that's like Oakland Ca numbers 😵

I can't imagine living in a place with so much violence, I'd constantly be scared for my life just walking on the street. Sure the odds that it happens to a specific individual is still slim, but it's still there. While violence has been increasing here too it's still not as bad. We get maybe 1 murder per year I'd say, which is still 1 murder too much imo. We get the odd stabbing too. There was one about a year ago that left quite a lot of blood on the sidewalk. They had a whole section closed off. I can't recall if they had to close the highway too, it was at a corner near it.

I would be so stickered up!

Also interesting:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_crime_rate

Baltimore and St. Louis are the most murder-ey cities in the US, and by a long shot.

Live in Aurora, CO? You'll probably get raped, but you won't get shot.

NYC is one of the safest cities, probably because if you can afford to live there, your time is too valuable to spend crime-ing.

I posted this last month in another Chicago thread...not sure how much these totals have changed since then..different perspective when you look at numbers instead of percentages...

St Louis - 95 Murders in 2017 http://www.slmpd.org/images/Homicide_Stats_for_Website.pdf
Baltimore - 177 Murders in 2017 http://data.baltimoresun.com/news/p...e=all&age=all&gender=all&race=all&article=all
Chicago - 341 Murders in 2017 https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/2017-chicago-murders
New Orleans - 97 Murders in 2017 http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/page/new_orleans_murders.html

According to that link for Chicago, it is up for 415 murders for 2017 now...

New Orleans is 106...

Baltimore is 210...

St Louis is 114...

Sounds like The Wire season 3, but with even less morals. :tearsofjoy:

As others have just noted, B'more leads the nation in murder rate so that comparison is actually unfair to Oakland.

Sure, but looking at absolute numbers instead of percentages or rates is, like, not all that useful.
