What ever happened to it? I just replaced 98SE with it (I use 2K most of the time though) just for the hell of it and so far it's actually working quite well, as opposed to what it used to.

Does anyone still use this? lol

People have Windows XP to bitch and whine about, WinME doesn't need to be bashed anymore.

It's still not the official release, so hopefully, they'll have all the bugs fixed by then...

I personally think Windows XP is turning out fine. But it seems trendy to bash everything Microsoft does, so all the "hard-core" techies are busily finding things wrong with XP.

Wow! Someone who actually agrees with me about the Microsoft bashing trend. They make a good target, and all the "real techies" out there have determined that Microsoft sucks and Linux is God (or something). Personally, I'd never actually use anything besides Microsoft OSs for anything besides playing around.

I used to hate and bash microsoft until I got Windows 2000. That's when you realize that MS is actually capable of making something good and you kind of gain some respect for them :)

OK, I have watched the Presentation of XP by Bill and Friends, but what is the forums people here think about it? I know some like it, but I mean what is it that really appeals to everyone. The multi-user capability? Is it more stable? Or maybe does it appear to be more stable is a better question.

I agree that the activation code thing is going to cause a great deal of mayhem. I would not be surprised if a patch will be released to fix bugs associated with this idea. But then again maybe I am wrong.

Same here. Win2k was the first real Windows OS I've ever used. Win95, Win98 SE and WinME were all cruel jokes (I've used them all).

As for WinXP, I don't see any reason why I should use it. It has no functions I need.
Granted, it can do some things Win2k can't, but WinXP still has a long way to go before it'll catch up with Linux in useful features and system specifications. No way I'll install such a bloated OS like WinXP on any of my PC's.

The only thing i like about winME is the ASF editor built in,
Does any one know if it can be added into win2k ?

Finally something I can totally agree with!
You might want to add that because they can't find anything wrong with it they invent the strangest rumors!

The same thing goes for WinME! Okay, I've heared that if you install it as an upgrade it is quite unstable but in my experience WinME if clean-installed is the most stable and fastest Win9x!

Kinesis:

Functionally Win2000 and WinXP are very similar.

There are a few features Win2000 doesn't have though.

If you think you'd use it the new UI is pretty spiffy :) I personally wouldn't likely take the time to play with it, but if you are the kind of person that skins winamp imagine now you can do it to your whole OS :) (if you don't like it you can turn it off).

System Restore, again not something I want (you can turn it off to), but for a lot of people it's a very handy feature.

WinXP also supposedly has better support for Digital Cameras.

I've heard that WinXP has better legacy compatibility..but I've also heard Win2000 can get that to (I'm downloading as I type this).

WinXP of course comes with IE6 and WMP8, but you can get both of those for Win2000 as well.

Now you realize I'm comparing XP to 2000....they are both in the NT5 family...if you compare XP to Windows 4.x (95,98,ME) there are huge lists of things that are better about them.

Search around...there was a thread a while ago about WinME vs Win2000.

Trust me, you'll want to be at Either Win2000 or WinXP. The NT5 family is a really really solid OS.

As to which..if you are on Win4.x just wait for XP. If you are at 2000 already it's a harder choice (that's where I am).

Yup, same with me. I went from thinking they should get cut in half to thinking they should take over the government :)

Now, though, with this activation crap, I'm starting to wonder...

LOL

Well Win95, 98 and ME were always pretty bad OSes.
Back in it's day DOS did it's job decently enough I suppose...but it's long past time we ditched the over-glorified DOS shells :)

Windows NT4 is a very good OS (I run it on one of my "Servers" back home), but it lacks some Key features home users want/need (DirectX, Plug'n'Play, USB, etc).

NT5 is a fantastic OS. I'm still iffy about this whole activation thing....but aside from that Windows XP seems to be a very good OS, and I've been using Win2000 for nearly a year now and it's excellent.

I won a limited Bill Gates edition of Windows Millenium during the Winme contest phase and have been using it at home ever since. On newer home PC's it's the only OS I would recommend for technologically challenged relatives. For the more advanced user, Win2K, and *hopefully* XP, will be the better choice.

I think that the average home user should be able to use XP. Hell, they SHOULD be able to use 2K.

One of the things I liked about Windows ME was its digital camera support. I, personally, DO like being able to "explore" right into my cam and work with its contents the same way I would with a CD-R. Some people hate using explorer, I love it.

Now, as far as I can tell, Windows 2000 can do this too, but the driver support isn't as expansive as WinME's. Of course, by now that may have changed. Maybe some of WinXP's drivers will work on 2K.

Also, DJMiX, I believe Windows 2000 Server comes with ASF editing tools. I am not sure if MS is offering it as a free download to Pro users or not.

I've also tried all the OS's and still currently using ME. I liked 2000 alot, but I'm too lazy to reinstall and config everything all over. So I'm sticking with ME for now, since it runs flawless for me anyways. No crashes, no problems, nothing.

Electrode, that digital camera support is solely the manufacturer's responsibility...not Microsoft's. My digital camera mounts as drive E: under Win2K (looks just like a hard drive) and many other cameras can do the same thing under 2K.

Ive had my share of frustrations with all win9x OS's but since Ive made the move to win2k Ive had no problems what so ever. My computer reboots when I want to, not when Im forced to do so like I did countless times with winme crashing all the freakin time.
