If anyone still thinks RC5 "rapes" your CPU, check this guy's computer out!

RC5 keeps your CPU at a constant temperature, so it may decrease wear and tear due to repeated expansion and contraction of its components.

P.S. NFS4, I see you live in North Carolina; so why don't you just crack open a window?

Disabling ACPI under Windows 2000 would have a similar effect.

Cheers!

49C isn't that hot depending on your case temp..> It looks like your case temp is probably in hte 30C range?

Taisol CGK742092 and my duron 600 At 1GHz running 109 Idle and 114 full load using the thermal pad thinking about putting some arctic silver on there since I have a whole tube that I havent used yet. hope it drops temps.

you know NFS4...of course it will be hotter. You use win2k right? It has the HLT command built in (ala rain, cpuidle, etc). If you run anything (say, any game), it'll probably get to about teh same temp as with RC5.

Also noteworthy, is that Duron's and Athlon's are speced to be able to run up to 90C. The P3 1ghz is speced only to be able to run up to 60C.

Hmmm...just ran Sandra and it says that my Duron 800MHz is running at 98C (!). This can't possibly be right can it?

My Tbird is running at 52C, I just checked the Bios since I do not have hardware monitor installed any more and I am fine with It no lockups on RC5 or UT and so on , I have had durons above that and did not have any problems either. I believe when idle it comes down around 46C @1450mhz.

I get worried if my Duron 650 @ 933 @ 1.85v goes over 44c :Q :Q
And that's with my 120mm YS Tech blowhole OFF, and RC5 and seti both running.
Does the taisol come with that TIM?

BurntKooshie,

P3 1ghz is actually spec'd to 75C core temp.

T-birds are rated to 95C Die temp for the 1.1 adn 1.2ghz chips. now if you could only read the stupid die temps....

ShrinerTech,

Don't trust Sandra. It almost never reports correct temps.

Btw, MBM is a POS. ;) Well, at least in my friend's Abit KT7. I replaced his POS loud-ass mofo heatsink (it came with his 1GHz Tbird) with a Taisol 7330492 today and I wanted him to be able to see the temperature all the time- so I first did some BIOS tweaking for other things and I saw it was at 44`C just in the BIOS. Fine, whatever, it's well within spec. Well, MBM5.04 was like a random number generator...I tried Via 686A-1, -2, and -3. Wellllll, -3 was reporting 31`C usually, -2 was usually reporting 27`C, and -1 was usually reporting 21`C. Now, sometimes they would fluctuate big time...like -3 would go from 21`C to 30`C. Anyway, I said fsck that piece of shiat (it's gotten to be bloatware- that dashboard is fugly and the interface is horrible- even though the program is the same 1.29MB as always. :p). I went and found MBM 4.18 and it was closer and reported the CPU temp (i think it's "Via 686A -3" is the CPU temp) at 37/38`C- but still off from what the BIOS said right at boot up before even loading winblows. So, I uninstalled that too and he'll be fine. :)

He LOVES how quiet the TaiSol is! He doesn't overclock so he doesn't need a FOP38 or Kanie Hedgehog or Alpha PEP66. :) His old POS heatsink was at like 44/45`C but it was friggin LOUD! The fan was amazingly noisy! Like it would kinda shake the computer and in the room below his you could hear a "humming" or a "buzz"! :p Now it's soooo quiet I love it and so does he...oh, his parents love it too! heheh

lol, are you actually worried about that temperature??

first of all, I wouldn't be surprised if that temperature was off a good bit..

second, when people are reporting incredibly low temperatures (33C and lower), their temperature's are probably off a fair bit as well.

even 50 C is fine when running your CPU at 100%

My Duron 600 @ 980 Mhz runs RC5 24 * 7 and it runs about 46-49 Celcius constantly. If I take down RC5, it's idle temperature is about 35 Celcius.

I have been running this for almost 2 months now without a problem. It is freaking hot compared to my P3 700 @ 1 Ghz which runs at an average of 35 Celcius.

Considering Durons/TBirds put out way more heat than p3's.....

BTW: How many times have you reinstalled the heatsink?

I've only put the HSF on once (actually Anand did, I was too scared to chip the core;)), just got it yesterday

I run my 1GHz Tbird @ 1350MHz 1.85v using an Alpha Pal6035 w/ Arctic silver. I run RC5 24/7 (PC is on 24/7) and the mobo cpu temp is reporting 43.3C.

Mikewarrior - I stand corrected about AMD. I was looking at my PDF file collection....a few of them are several months out of date:eek: As of the dates of my pdf files, however, those were the correct values :)

However, Intel's value is 70degree's C. that's from http://support.intel.com/support/processors/sspec/p3p.htm. Guess they finally got their yields under controll with the ghz chip....a year later

<< MBM is a POS >>

No, that Abit motherboard is a POS. Get a well engineered motherboard with MBM, and you can get some relatively accurate information. I have access to a huge amount of info on my geriatric Asus P2B-F, with it's two external temp probe headers. I've used most monitoring programs out there, and MBM is the best.

MBM 5.0 is kind of growing on me, the jury's still out on that version..
