No Video on tv.

I have tried this before with no problems with the same hardware and everything worked fine.

Ati 9800 pro to tv (two different systems with the same model card gives same results). I can see desktop but when I launch an Avi the video portion is blank. Now I used to do this all the time with no problems.

Could it be the newer drivers are causing this?

TIA

Can we get a frickin' sticky for this?

You can't display overlay video on the secondary monitor output. Either:

a) Switch to VMR9 or software-only mode in the player you are using.

or

b) Switch the tv-out to be the 'primary' monitor and have the monitor as the 'secondary'.

Uh, thanks anyway but I figured it out.

There is a Theatre mode in the Overlay settings and I played around with the settings and everything is back to normal.

Yes, Theater Mode also works, but seriously changes the functionality of the second display. With theater mode enabled, whenever you play a video, it is mirrored fullscreen on the secondary display. You can't use this to display video in a window on the second monitor, which is what it sounded like you wanted to do.
