I'll give the relevant hardware components first:
HP Pavilion 2303ep
H-Joshua-H61-uATX (Joshua)
Ati Radeon Hd 7570 2GB
So here's the background story:
A friend of mine brought me an upgraded Windows 10 computer (originally 8 I believe) which started to get really messed up after a dumb Windows update. Your typical stuff by Microsoft.
Tried Windows tools (system restore, repair, and then command line tools like sfc and a few others I can't remember) which only made matters worse when all of them failed... Removed disk and saved almost all the data. Because Windows had been upgraded and not freshly installed the .pst files were unaccessible through another system (tried everything including Linux live cd's) and so I really needed to fix the problem on the original OS to get 'em even if I planned to format it when I had everything backed up. Thought about booting from a USB flash drive. Pretty standard, right? This is when it gets funny...
THE PROBLEM
Originally the computer booted through UEFI. The only device I was able to boot from it was the original hard drive. So I did this: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03653226
Basically disabled secure boot and enabled legacy bios. And everything started to get seriously screwed: no monitor and 6 beeps at the start along with an orange led to go along with the sound. The keyboard always appeared to be working throughout all of this. After the first beeps the led goes back to normal and I'm pretty sure it's running... I just can't see it!
Did all the steps pointed to me in the hp site to reset the bios which were basically pull the battery out or move the jumper. Did both, several times and with different combinations. Battery spent several hours outside of it.
Finally did what Intel had in their H61 socket instructions: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/000005630.html (don't know if it's the exact link but the procedure is exactly the same) and with a big difference: power up with the jumper in the reset position. It worked! Everything back to normal.
Because I have no other option other than to use Legacy BIOS I disabled the key lock sequence that hp has in place on the bios (didn't work and yes, I had the jumper in the default position) and disabled fast boot (also didn't work).
The second time I changed to legacy bios I managed to insert the key lock sequence after several attempts removing the cmos battery and the jumper.
Third (and so far, last) time I pulled Ram out, forced memory error, connected it again and it went through. This time I was able to boot three times in legacy bios. Could see the USB drive to go through the Windows repair process so there I went...
Then, again the same damn thing. Now I'm not able to get video again. I did try to use the on-board graphics but it goes the same way (I did enable the internal graphics card in bios, btw). If I remove the Radeon the pc beeps 6 times but it succession. It's the normal beep code by the way (checked in hp site).
Can anyone help me get a stable "video boot"? What else can I do? I'm trying to borrow another video card to test it at the moment. And how can I reset the damn thing in a not so random way?
