No video...not gpu...

My main PC decided to do the following:

- monitor says no signal

I tried different GPUs and that made no difference

My speaker doesnt seem to work so I can't go by beep tests....but is this a mobo or a cpu problem?

All lights on motherboard light up without problem, fans run and all that jazz....just nothing comes out of it...what died?

thanks in advance

tried both hdmi (to tv, my usual "monitor") and dvi to a standard pc monitor, and also dvi from a 2nd video card to double check

so not cable or monitor issue....

ultimately the computer isnt on though, its not on the network, its not booting or doing anything other than, well, turning on and pretending to work

It could still be motherboard or power supply. Probably not the CPU.

Probably not the power supply since the lights are 5V and the fans are 12 V. Best bet is to measure the power supply voltages or use a digital power supply tester or substitute a different power supply. If the power turns out OK, then it's likely motherboard related.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to change the CMOS battery, since dead ones can cause weird symptoms and they are cheap. But you'd probably at least get a blinking cursor if the CMOS battery was dead.

ill try the cmos battery, last time one of those went i dont think i had these symptoms but its worth a shot

if not, ill just buy a new motherboard....

doubt its the psu....

can i absolutely rule out the cpu for symptoms like this though?

Maybe the keyboard or mouse or other devices is the problem. Try to remove one of them. I tried it myself and it works.
