No/VERY Slow HTTP Access (Vista Business 32-bit)

Well, last night I had no problems surfing the net. But this morning when I woke up it could no longer access the web (Computer is left on 24/7). The weird thing is Torrents are not affected, neither is playing games like Vanguard. Just seems to be HTTP only that is having the problem.

I tried rebooting my Cable Mode, my Router and my PC dozens of times. I booted up to Ubuntu and it had no problems accessing the web. I am at my wits end trying to fix this thing. I tried disabling my network ports. I tried changing my network card settings. I tried everything I can think of. I am really close to just reformatting and starting over from scratch.

Any ideas?

But it affects all browsers, Firefox, Opera, Avant, IE7, IE8. None work. I would think a plugin would only affect the browser it is installed in. I guess there are a few plugins that are used in all of them. Will look into it.

Possbily something with your DNS settings. Try hitting a website with the IP address instead of domain name. If it works the you know you have a DNS problem.

Well, I have been trying to load 192.168.0.1 which is my router and it won't load. Yet I can go into a command prompt and ping 192.168.0.1 and www.yahoo.com and it works. Just won't in the browsers.

I finally figured out the problem. NOD32 3.0. For some reason something happened to it and it was blocking ALL HTTP connections. The weird thing is I told it to "disable" itself and that didn't fix it. So I went into the options and told it to EXCLUDE Firefox from scanning. Bam, Firefox worked again. Of course nothing else did, but I have a email submitted to their tech support now. See what is going on with their program.

Have you done a re-install of NOD32 yet?

If not, make sure that when you do any traces of it are deleted. Sometimes programs(*ahem* Norton) like to leave their junk behind after an uninstall. Many times this contains previous settings should you install it again and not want to configure things from scratch.

I wouldn't think you need to dig down into the regedit though. Just do a folder search on NOD32 and it should help you find anything left behind.

Not really sure what was the problem. Uninstalled NOD32 3 and downloaded their latest version and installed it. Didn't fix anything. A few hours later it downloaded a new virus database and it has worked fine since then. Was able to recheck Firefox and still access the net. So basically the problem is solved but don't know what fixed it. I sent in a help ticket to ESET about it but have not heard back from them. Not really sure they even got it considering the network issues.
