Valve/Half-Life to me is like a super hot chick that only let's you stick the tip in then makes you put your clothes back on and leaves you with blue balls.

The Valve is either open or shut with nothing in between. The longer it is shut, the better the game is likely to be. That super hot chick who teases you sounds more like EA with all their marketing hype.

you'll enjoy it...a lot of people think its better tahn hl2 and ep1.

I'd agree with that. Especially after playing all three parts again this weekend. Ep1 is kinda lame imo.

Lol. I wonder if there is anyone at Valve who is still interested in Half-Life. It seems like their priorities have shifted.

I remain hopeful based on Valve's track record but I am getting worried.
Why? What track record? They have released ah heck all since the Orange Box 4 years ago. Some shitty zombie games with the quality of a HL2 mod, lots of TF2 hats and 4 hours of Portal 2 gameplay. What track record? Valve has lost it.

Valve dont really make games any more. And why would they? Why commit money to a development studio when you can make mega-bank onselling games through Steam and creaming it from retards with hats and other add ons that take literally <5 hours to churn out from the art department.

I have to agree and disagree. Valve was a small developer that hit the big time with Half Life 2 and Steam and they've grown so fast its made their heads spin. Since then they've used the same game engine to crank out one co-op zombie shooter or whatever after another. That engine though uses a highly modified Havoc physics engine that runs on the cpu and I suspect that's what the delay is all about. Anyone can come out with a shooter or a game that uses a lot of cpu physics, but combining the two in a meaningful way is another trick altogether. With any luck the new Half Life will have some new tricks that become standards like the classic rag doll physics of Half Life 2. Nobody else really does much of that kind of thing and if Valve felt it necessary to maybe experiment first with Portal 2 physics and give all their new programmers some practice I'm glad they took their time to do it right.

I do not see an issue with Valve not being at E3.

If Valve does not have a new game, why go?

EA is more like that super hot chick that's covered in sores under her clothes.

You have no idea how jealous I am of you. I'd love to be playing a HL chapter again for the first time.

Well I ended up going to the lake all weekend so I didn't get to play Ep. 2 like I hoped. However... I'm starting my new job next week and I'm gonna play it right now! :awe:

Honestly, I think Valve is probably terrified to even touch a Half-Life 3, for fear it can't live up to fan's expectations. HL2 fans have it in their minds that HL2 was the greatest game ever made, and any disappointments at all are bound to cause riots.

Like the series finale of LOST.

Most HL2 fans will contend (I think) that while HL2 was brilliant, the first HL was the best (or among the best) game ever made.

Are you trying to credit Valve with rag doll physics?

They are possibly concentrating on developing the DoTA2 game.

Maybe they will release EP3 + DoTA2 + Portal3 + TF3 as an Orange Box 2.... :awe:

No, merely that with making contributions to cpu physics that have the potential to become standard in many video games just as rag doll physics did.

Physics has been the redheaded stepchild of video games because it either requires a great deal of resources from the gpu or some serious work simplifying the equations to run on the cpu. Technically 8 cores is an ideal minimum for a cpu to run physics and Half Life 2 gets by with 2 or 4 cores. The results may not look spectacular like a building exploding into a million pieces, but the little things often add up to make for a much better visual experience.

Valve diddled around with physics in the HL2 games. It was (somewhat) novel at the time with the gravity gun and stuff, but games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Red Faction: Guerilla make it look pretty tame. They use physics to truly shape the game (especially BC2).

The amount of ridiculously bullshit posts to sane posts in this thread is off the charts. Valve may be sidetracked, but this wait is nowhere near surprising for them. Half-Life 2, as an engine and as a game, is not that old. It is still going strong and suits the current PC atmosphere very well. Portal 2 just came out and was a good looking, well running game. I'd consider it the sweet spot. I like that they are testing all of these alternative game play ideas and I hope that personally when they do sit down to make HL3 they will have a lot of unique view points to incorporate into the game and make it an entirely refreshing FPS game.

7 years old. 7 years.

Still works great. Portal 2 did not seem old to me and it ran a lot better than most things. How am I supposed to complain about a good engine that works and looks fine? TF2 looks and runs fine as well.

I'd rather play Portal 2 than Crysis 2. So I guess that goes for something, eh?

Already forgot what you posted?

HL2 is still fun, but it definitely feels dated.
