No USB Mouse in Mandrake 8.1 Beta

Okay, just installed the Mandrake 8.1 Beta, and my USB Intellimouse works throughout the installation. However, once everything is done, and Linux loads up, it doesn't work. I've tried moving it to the PS/2 port, and that does nothing. Don't really know what else to say. The mouse pointer is displayed, but it does not respond to movement or clicking, even though it did during the installation. This is an odd problem. Help me out, people. Please?

From what you wrote it sounded like you changed to the PS/2 connector while the computer was running. Unfortunately PS/2 is not hot pluggable, so if the computer does not see it at boot up it won't work if you plug it in latter. As to the USB problem, dunno, submit a bug report to Mandrake, it is a beta after all.

I have my MS IntelliMouse Optical only connected via USB and I have notcied similar behavior. The mouse works during the install and it worked when I rebooted immediately after install. The next day, when I booted into Linux, I had no mouse action.

I know that PS/2 isn't hot pluggable. I shut everything down before changing it. I will try to file a bug report though, thanks for the advice.

Well, at least it's nice to see that someone else has this problem too.

Same here. If I recall correctly, if you install while connected to the PS2 adapter it will work. I'm going to install the beta again (right after I send this post) and verify.

Oddly enough, as y2kc was writing his post, I was reinstalling Mandrake with my mouse on the PS/2 port. And now it works, although I haven't tried reconnecting it to USB yet. Thanks, y2kc!

I dont know if Mandrake can recognize new hardware and update EVERYTHING when you change from usb to ps/2. So when you did that did you change all of the config files and whatnot?

<< Thanks, y2kc! >>

Sounds you found out the hard way just like I did 😉 ...glad I could help.
