is this logic only applicable on written essays? i hate it

A+ doesn't mean perfect compared to everything. It means that a paper accurately met the standards outlined in a grading rubric.

I can do math perfectly if the standard is first grade level arithmetic.

2+2=4

Yeah, that was always my opinion too. If you accomplish everything that needs to be accomplished, you hit all the main points, you do it concisely, you should get a 100%

Throwing in a 99% or 95% for something trivial means that you are straying from a consistent grading formula
