dumbest thing ever.

i got spanked and i spank my kids when they deserve it.

the last time i spanked was last summer. I had been telling my 7 year old son for weeks to stop throwing rocks because of hurting somebody or breaking a window. Well one fine sat afternoon i was in the backyard doing something in my shed and all of a sudden i heard glass shatter. i go to the driveway and see the side window on the sienna laying in the driveway in a zillion pieces and my son standing in the yard with that wided eyed look of "I am dead". well little mister had a warm butt when i caught him. with kids sometimes talking doesnt do it, it takes a swift pop in the ass to knock what ever is in their little brains to come loose so they can understant these simple words. DONT DO THAT!

i think it is going a little far to have your kids in such fear of their parrents as you describe it. yes, you should be fearful of the rewards you actions will sow...but you should also understand (eventually...usually after your teenage years) that you parrents only did so to help you realize life and how things should be. now..when i do something wrong, i'm fearful of what my parrents will say but only because i dont like to dissapointment. i beleive that the fear of that was established through spankings/talking-tos.

i also agree with previous posters...kids these days dont get spanked enough...hell...i couldve used more spanking, but unfortunately i grew bigger than my dad when i was like 16 so i guess he thought there wouldnt be a point (thus they moved onto psychological disciplening when i could understand it)

i know it sounds weird but i think younger kids are just like dogs. if you give a swift yank on the dogs leash when it isnt paying attention, it breaks their train of thought and they pay attn to you. if they do something bad (ie ****** on the floor) you shove their face near it (showing them wtf they did wrong) and tell them no..bad damn dog...and if nessicary give it a little spanking. eventually they get the point that shitting on that surface is bad. but you must also realize they need to be praised when they do good things like shitting in the yard (or in a kids case...getting good grades). you say good dog and give it a treat or belly scratch...or in a kids case a hug or pizza...or whatever kids like now-a-days, lol...

serriously...its not THAT hard of a concept...the lady in that article is a complete moron.

I understand what you are saying and agree with some of it. but you better zip up your flame suit because i have a feeling a inferno is headed your way.
 
There's a LOT of people at my school that really should've been spanked more when they were younger. But they always got what they wanted, so now they've become brats. My parents didn't spank me for trivial things, but if I did something REALLY wrong, then I knew it.

agreed, but there is still a fine line between abuse and spanking and crossing of such line should be determined by DHR (child protective services) if someone notifies them of the problem. i would go so for to say i think i was beat more than a couple times as a child. did a desrve it...oh hell yah, was it the right thing for my dad to do? no...it was childish of him IMO. i was a pissed of hormonal raging teen and thried to fight back with him, all he did was put me in my place. but he should have realized the situation and thought it through more. now, am i scarred for life because of it? hell no. i love my parrents to death as do they love me. i'm never in any emotional/physical fear of my parrents or other people who fit similar descirptions( Isnt it, usually kids beaten by large men have some kind of mild phobia of large men?...no?...well..you get the point, i hope)

use of a belt may be a little extreme in some cases (lots of variables, strength of the disciplener, child, etc.) and i figure as long as it doesnt hurt them to the point that it leaves bruises/welts or worse...and it is in the designated area (ass/upper legs) its all good. there is a HUGE difference between smacking you kid the face and a spanking. my mom slapped me in the face a couple times and i cried...not because it hurt but because it is extremely demeaning and...it is just a lot different than a spanking. did i deserve it? ya...should she have done it? no. am i scared? hell no. but it is still wrong...different kids may go overboard and not understand. my parrents gave plenty of spankings and sometimes i think they went to far, but they amount of love given was 10x that of the disciplen. my parrents would and still do awlays ask if they know how much they love me (and my siblings) and make sure i understand...well...as much as i can without kids of my own, such a concept is hard to grasp until such time, i believe. but anyways, the point is they showed their love 100x more than the punishment and i think that is the right way to go about things.

i wouldnt be opposed to the seperation of some states from the union...however...there are morons everywhere and problems like this will eventually rise elsewhere. the problem with california is they all ganged up and multiplied and never left the area (fortunately) but every now and then some leak out to WA or NY

edit: and it is laws like this that lead to the laws which will eventually lead to another revolutionary war.
 
this is seriously the most ridiculous bill ever... i was spanked.. my kids are spanked when they need it.. i don't do it often.. i try to use time outs more, but sometimes a swat on the butt is what they need..

i agree with the one lady in there, parents should be taught to punish kids in other ways, i know i would definately take a course like that.. why not have a bill that offers free or low priced parenting classes?

one of the smartest comments all day. instead of taking away rights of humans, give them more freedom but offer to guide them on a path professionals/scholors agree is benificial to the child. i dont think it is without flaws, but it is MUCH better than banning rights...

There is no excuse for spanking a child under three. Resorting to corporal punishment at that age range is a failure at parenting.

The other issue that you are all ignoring is that in order to prove that a spanking occurred there would have to be physical evidence, and no child should ever be hit hard enough to leave physical evidence, that is always abuse. No one is going to convict any sort of hitting of a child by a parent on eyewitness testimony alone. Even if you have pictures of the bruises on the kid it's nearly impossible to convict child abusers at any age. This is aggravated by the fact that eyewitness testimony by people under 18 is always heavily discounted by the courts, and the statute of limitations on child abuse is so short that legally you are virtually guaranteed to get away with anything you do to a child of your own under the age of thirteen as long as it doesn't cause highly visible permanent scarring or missing limbs, no matter how sadistic or illegal.

This law, if passed, will almost certainly never be prosecuted except in extremely rare cases where police are able to obtain a warrant to conduct a search and have medical examinations done on the remaining children, such as when the parents kill one child and abuse of the other children is suspected.
