Neither the Pioneer DVD or TDK burner came with an audio cable. Some guy at a store called Microcenter gave me a Y connector to connect two devices to a sound card. This mobo has onboard audio. Windows 98 does not detect an audio device. Do I need to buy two seperate audio cables? That wouldn't help Windows recognize a sound device though right?

Onboard Legacy audio showed as enabled. Sound Blaster was disabled. Enabling the sound blaster is what I would do if I was using a soundcard right?

Check in Advanced Chipset features also, and make sure that OnChip Sound is enabled. You can enable SoundBlaster if you want your audio to have SB emulation.......

Hmmmm.....you should be getting sound, then. Check the back of your machine and make sure your speakers are plugged into the proper port. Also, check Device Manager to make sure there aren't any device conflicts and that your audio is showing up. And last but least, check sound settings to make sure they aren't muted or volume isn't down all the way. Those would be my last guesses, anyway......

Thing is in Device Manager, it says there is no pci audio device detected. When I click on Volume Control nothing happens. When I open sound recorder a message pops up saying I have no audio device installed. Even if my audio wire from my dvd to my mobo is not connected, shouldn't windows recognize on board audio?

Yes, it should recognize the audio even if your cable isn't hooked up. You may want to enable SoundBlaster in BIOS and try different IRQ/DMA settings, too.

Hmmm, I'm not too familiar with IRQ/DMA settings but I appreciate all the suggestions Heretik!
