No sound in some .avi files...

I get no sound in some of my .avi files when played through windows media player. It reads "requesting codec" and "connecting to server" in the bottom, but never finds the right one or something. Is there a codec I can get to fix this? Or a media player update?

so it doesn't use Microsoft's codec... maybe it's DivX, XviD, Indeo or i don't know.... you might want to try NIMO CodecPack, it's an all-in-one codec installer

Try reinstalling divx alpha 3.11 and when windows prompts you and askes if you want to keep the newer file you are replacing with an old one say no and use the old file that comes with divx 3.11, that's what people need to do to
hear the sound on my encodes. good luck
