No sound from Sound blaster Audigy

Audio isn't working on my computer. I hear crackling, the audio will stop working and the computer randomly shuts down. Its not a heat issue. The card is an Audigy. Tried other speakers, and I think the random shutdowns are related as they seem to happen right after the crackling. The MB & CPU are brand new, just installed lastweek and the system ran fine for 5 days before the sound stopped working. Device manager says everythings fine. Tried moving it to a different PCI slot & the computer shutdown just as it was detecting it. Uninstalled & reinstalled drivers. Card works in other computer, the other computer is Windows 2000, mine is XP. Onboard sound works ok. Any thoughts?

What MB and CPU? Does the system run normally without shutdowns if you don't have the Audigy in it?

MB is Asus K8N. System runs fine with no sound problems or shutdowns when the card is not in there. And the system had run fine for days with it in there.

Hmm 😕 All-out shutdowns due to the presence of the card in this mobo, but not in the other one. If you didn't already, try disabling the motherboard's own onboard audio, MIDI and Gameport features in the BIOS. If it were the K8N-E Deluxe then I'd also suggest disabling its Firewire controller since the Audigy has one of them too.
