Is this something that will possibly be "fixed" in a future release with Afterburner or other program with that eula set overclocking = 2

so the voltage controller is just not able to control voltage?

is this a hardware level lock or software level lock?

I have seen some folks volt-mod their GTX 680s. I would assume you could do something similar to the 670. IIRC, the HW itself will not allow voltage over about 1.21 without bypassing some connections on the board and doing some relatively involved modding. Certainly not impossible, but then you also either need custom software to use that higher voltage or hard-set it on the board itself. Rather involved.

I would be happy for some hacked BIOS or software applications to allow up to 1.21, that's probably enough voltage for most non-exotic cooling anyway. If I was using water on my GPUs, I might consider more extreme ways to get the core freq higher than standard voltage allows.

At first I thought this article didn't say much, because they can all overvolt to some extent if their default voltages are 1.075V (can go up to 1.175V)... So it turns out this card is on NE right now

And if you look at the picture of the back of the PCB, and compare it to all other reference models of the 670, you'll see the MSI version is absolutely packed with extra circuitry. It looks the even include a special thin mounting bracket that specifically fits their card (you'll see other reference cards have the normal amount of space available there) so who knows...

Since it's a custom board then that makes sense. NVIDIA isn't allowing overvolting with reference boards, but custom boards are supposedly fair game.
