No room for T900 on MSI K7T

I just found out that the heatsink supplied with my Tbird 900 doesn't fit on my MSI K7T. There is a green ring with cobber wire wrapped around it that prevents the heatsing from fitting. It is only 1/8", but I nervous I will break something if I twist it. The heatsink is the the one that came in my retail version of the processor, so I don't get it.

Has anyone had the same problem?
