no response from computer

need some help please.

I tried to install Norton 2003, was doing something else at the time, anyway, had to restart, not realising the installation wasn't finished (was around 85/90% done)

Now when i boot up, when Windows starts, everything responds normally until the norton icon comes up in the system tray, then everything stops. I can click icons, but can't move them or open them. When i hover over the start button I just get the 'busy' cursor, and can't click. Keyboard doesn't respond either.

As it stands now, I can't use the computer for anything. can't get into msconfig, or control panel to uninstall the program. Can't try and re-install it either. Don't have an image to restore to, and am basically out of ideas.

if someone can suggest anything, i'm listening. I'm thinking that I've got to stop Norton from loading long enough to uninstall it....

thanks in advance.

how do I do that? I did want to try that, but couldn't remember how (this computer has been trouble-free for such a long time)

oh by the way running windows XP Pro and mother board is Nforce (maybe)

When you startup your PC, before the "windows XP" loading screen appears, press F8 on your keyboard. This will bring up a set of options. First select the "Last Known Good Profile" option. If you still get the same problem, restart your PC and select the "Safe Mode" option. One of theses should help you with your problem.

thanks, but still no joy. I've got the program to stop coming on at startup, but I still can't do anything.

I went into control panel to uninstall it, but it wants to complete the installation, and then crashes....

tried the original disk again but as soon as i click on the setup icon, and the wizard initialises.....crashes again.

getting rather frustrated at this now, and beginning to think of formatting, cause i need a working computer....

ok, i managed to delete all the files while in safe mode and I think it's sorted out now. I know deleting files isn't too good for the computer, but felt no other choice. thanks for the help people
