(No replies in the "Software" forum) Can't copy a CD using PlexTools Pro XL

(I'm not getting any replies to this in the "Software" forum, so I'm trying here).

I'm trying to do a very simple thing; make a copy of my XP CD to test this 712SA Plextor drive (SATA). Well not so simple using PT Pro XL. :disgust: Regardless of what I do ("Enable verify" box checked with various options checked, or totally unchecked) I keep getting this BS about "Error sending cue sheet" crap. I guess I should stick with ECDC since I never had a problem with it. So is this PlexTools a POS??

I of course did searches on this and incredibly didn't find JACK on that phrase with "plextools" and only found a few hits with "plextor", and not a single one had anything to do with copying a CD, plus most if not all were about "Fireburner"! Evidently I'm the "only person on the planet that experienced this problem" that posted something about it. :frown: :confused: :roll:

VariRec, GigaRec, SecureRec, and Silent Mode are all OFF (default). PowerRec is enabled.

Retail XP CD is a litlle tricky - you picked a nasty one.
CD has both the O/S image and the boot image - so it can self boot.
image files that are burnable already come as ISO or have bin and cue files to make the image. (Binary and cue)
The cue file tells the burn where to start, and how many bytes sector and mode
like so:
FILE "PNT-RTPA.BIN" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00
You can take all the files off your XP CD and then create a bin and cue in UltraIso, or save it as a burnable ISO

Just to copy I would use cloneCD (free) in raw mode

I dont think Plextools has boot CDROM options

Thanks for the reply as well.

Actually this is an OEM CD, but I know what you mean...I figure you mean a "bought pressed CD". I mentioned I made a copy of it with Adaptec/Roxio ECDC in 2:50* and had no problems at all. So, it's something wrong with PT (PlexTools). (*This is REALLY slow, works out to only 3.2MB/sec!! "PowerRec" was on, it was available in ECDC's "disk copy" so I chose it in the drop-down menu, and it limited the avg. record speed to I think it was 32 or 35x. I guess that's why it was so slow, but it still should have been faster).

I don't understand what a bootable CD, bin and cue, and ISO images have to do with this--just copying a CD. None of this comes into play with ECDC when copying a CD with it, so I'm rather confused on that. :confused: Are you saying that contrary to the name, PT's "Disk copy" function can't copy a CD, even though the name implies that? Or can it only copy a non-bootable CD?

Hey, if you just want to test the burner, grab a music CD and burn that. Win XP and a lot of new software and games make it hard for you, so if you just want to test the burn capabilities do yourself a favor and burn something easy.

My 2c.

I can't believe I'm the only one that has ever tried to copy a CD or DVD with PT. Apparently it's a bug (another bug) with PT since I can copy the CD fine with ECDC, but I'd like some input from others than have tried it with PT. I wonder why PT even has the "Disk copy" area if it doesn't work. :confused:
