No real buzz or excitement on new Apple Launches?

I haven't driven by an apple store lately but it seems like there isn't the same frenzied buzz about these launch events anymore and I'm in Socal which is a hotbed for i devices. I'm mostly just interested in them as an investor and am mostly an android user.

It's not new and exciting anymore. Constant phone and tablet launches have tired people out. I never cared about the launches but I do care about Apple stock.

the "s versions never have the buzz

its just going to be the same phone they currently have with a spec bump and some gimmiky new feature AKA Force Touch

next year the 7 will generate a lot of buzz

I would imagine that there will be the usual queues whenever the new iDevice actually goes on sale and people will be talking about whatever comes out at their thing today for the next week or so.

It would probably be a bigger deal if they didn't already have the AppleTV as there would be more speculation about whether or not they'll take over the market or just be an also ran in that space, but it sounds like they're just refreshing product lines for the most part.

I'm personally more interested in the later event where they're supposed to release a 21" 4k iMac, which I think would make a nice bedroom computer / TV.

apple wont ever make a TV display. its been rumored since 2006 or so and has not happened yet and most likely wont.

the appleTV (htpc thing) is all they will ever do

There's a 4-page thread already in the Apple sub-forum:

But yeah...it's yet another portable screen. Not a ton new they can add to it. Maybe do an Amazon Echo version of Siri. Make the iPad screen a little bigger. Add a pushbutton sceren to the iPhone. Throw some games on the Apple TV & maybe add some home automation features in there. Heck, maybe it will be a huge homekit unveiling for home automation products controlled via Siri, but we already have that with Echo & Wink. Maybe they'll take out Sonos this time. But I don't know if there's really anything groundbreaking left to be done. Fingers crossed though!

Everyone was waiting for an iPhone with a big screen. Now that they got that...

I will be mildly upset if the new one isn't waterproof. There's no card slot, there's no removable battery...it's a long overdue feature imo. And not just for outdoorsy people, but for people with little kids who chew on their phones & spill juice on them and whatnot. I really don't want to put on a 1/2" thick Otterbox just to protect my phone from moisture, you know?

Wouldnt it be awesome if apple added an msd slot? I would laugh my ass off for some reason. Samsung going the apple route, apple going the samsung route.

I'm pretty interested in the rumors of optical zoom on the camera, if that's really true it would be really impressive to squeeze into such a small package. If it turns out to be true and works well I'll be considering going to the 6s+ when I have my upgrade in a few months.

There isn't likely to be optical zoom -- you need physical space for that, and there isn't a lot of that in most phones, let alone the iPhone.

Here's what I'm expecting:

iPhone 6S: same screen sizes and storage options, faster A9 processor, 2GB of RAM, 12MP rear camera with 4K video, front 5MP camera, Force Touch, always on "Hey Siri"

New Apple TV: A8 processor, apps, new remote with Siri voice commands, universal search, more storage.

New Apple Watch bands and (maybe) body color options.

iPad Pro (may wait until October): 12.9-inch screen, A9X processor, strong speakers, Force Touch, optional stylus and keyboard.

Yeah I don't see how they could squeeze in optical zoom either unless it's something like a lens that just slides over so you get 2 different ranges. It would be a nice surprise if they put in 3Gb of RAM and started the storage capacity higher but I don't think that will happen.

I'm kinda excited. Seems like Apple may be announcing a lot of new hardware today.

iPhone 6S (not sure about the 6C), a much improved Apple TV, possibly even iPads including the Pro. I think it's a bit unusual for Apple to be announcing iPhones and iPads during the same event, but some are speculating that will happen. Which I think is a good idea considering the launches are not that far apart and the events are starting to get less exciting as everything has already been done and little is really new now. I personally don't care for the 40 minutes spent talking about sales numbers to start these events off with.

Maybe Apple will use the extra thickness from Force Touch to put in a huge battery and put all the mediocre-battery Android phones (Samsung) to shame.

Nah, it's just there because Jony Ive hates the protruding camera bump. I recall reading some interview where the interviewer said that mentioning it made Ive seem dejected.

Finger print was awesome, although I thought it was stupid at first.

New iPad Pro looks great. 12.9 inch screen and keyboard cover.

And a "Apple Pencil". 🙂

I think they missed a big opporunity on the name. I would have gone with iStylus just so they can release multiple colors and say iStyli in their presentations.

That's so cool, I bet people would buy several even if they have no use for it, just so they can say it as well.

i like the new iPad. The GPU in that thing is a monster. I kinda am skeptical about the stylus you have to plug into the ipad to charge though.

iPad Pro looks very awesome. But $800 for 32GB and $950 for 128GB just seem too expensive. And $100 for the "pencil" is nuts. Keyboard is too expensive at $170, but Microsoft has already gotten me used to paying too much for a keyboard. 🙂

There is also an iPad Mini 4, which is an iPad Air 2 in a smaller form factor for $400. They didn't give this more than a breath of time.

And apparently no new iPad Air.

If I spend $1000 on a tablet, it would most likely be for a Surface Pro 4. I think it's a mistake for Apple to try to position this directly against the Surface Pro. At this price people are going to want a lot more. expandable storage, USB port, full operating system, etc.

I think the iPad Pro is a joke.

At that size and price, they're trying to undercut the SP3, and against that device, the iPad will be found lacking.

/OPINION

The iPad Pro is a reactionary product unfortunately, but let's see where they take this. The split window implementation could trickle down into the regular iPads next year and perhaps the larger iPhone too.

You can say Apple's stupid for slowly releasing its features, but even if TouchID finally made it to the iPad Mini 3 and was the only upgrade they offered last year, it's definitely a system that even Google is trying to go after.
