Nice :)

I had my IDE devices setup as:

Primary:
Asus 50x CDROM
Toshiba 12x DVDROM
Secondary:
Yamaha 8x8x24 CDRW
Zip250 drive

On a Promise Ultra100:
d0: IBM 75GXP 45Gig <--- OS Drive
d1: Empty
d2: IBM 75GXP 30Gig
d3: Empty

Changed this to:

Primary:
IBM 75GXP 30Gig <--- OS Drive
Zip250 drive

Secondary:
Yamaha 8x8x24 CDRW
Toshiba 12x DVDROM

(removed the Promise Card)

I also changed my Video card from a Guillemot GeForce to a Gigabyte TNT2.

No reactivation problems at all :)

(I did a clean install, but the activation had no problems :))

Just thought I'd share.

Talking about XP?

I thought it only checks the mainboard\cpu. Could be wrong though.

Yes, I made several hardware changes and it affects nothing so far... as stated above likely just mainboard chipset changes or reformats.

I beleive that I read that you only have to call microsoft if you change the mobo/cpu + one other piece of hardware.

Oh yeah reactivation of WinXP :p

Yeah I didn't expect my chnages to present a problem, but there are people out there that seem to think that very minor changes would require calling Microsoft.

I just changed out an Abit SA6 and P3 for an Epox 8KHA and T-bird 1200 and did a clean reinstall of XP RC1. The activation sailed right thru. No problem or glitch at all. No need to phone MS. Nothing. Just full activation. Now I did get a major STOP BSOD on initial reboot from the mobo install. I had to repartition and reformat, install ME just to make sure it wasn't the board. Another reformat and reinstall of XP and to my complete surprise evrything went thru as perfect as you could ask. I still don't believe it.

I replaced my 36GB SCSI drive with a pair of 18GB X15 yesterday, did full reformat and reinstall, and still was able to do a standard internet registration and activation.. no pain at all. :)

People of the paranoid varity. Even though Microsoft has stated that minor changes would not affect the activation, and now you have shown us an example, I guess there are a few here who will still insist Microsoft is lying.

Precisely my point ;)
