Motherboard is chaintech vnf3-250 and case is antec sonata with 380 watt power supply.

When I turned on my computer there is nothing. No lights, no fans, etc. dead. Been working great for over a year.

Is there anything else I should be checking? All motherboard connections look good. There is no power LED or any other diagnostic that I can see on this motherboard.

I'm going to clear the bios just for kicks. I think I've got a power supply somewhere so I'll see if I can at least get it to power up.

-update-
power supply was indeed bad, replaced
motherboard was indeed bad, replaced

all happy now

Your cat stepped on the rocker switch on your power strip, maybe? :D

heh, no he didn't but I can see it happening.

I plugged up another power supply and it powered up. Off to compusa. Hope I get the correct one.

Picked up an antec true power 430. Also confirmed that the old power supply was dead (plugged it into another computer that has a power LED on the motherboard - nothing)

Now the CPU fan blips for a second and then nothing.

I've removed everything but the motherboard, memory and proc. Supplied power to the motherboard with the new power supply.

Same symptoms.

So the question is - motherboard or proc or memory? I thought a motherboard would beep at you if it couldn't recognize proc/memory?

The only thing I get is the cpu fan spinning for about a second. the mobo has a speaker for beebs. Nothing.

I'm starting to suspect motherboard? I've even rewired the power and reset switches. Something weird had to have happened - like the motherboard shorting and hence ruining the power supply.

-edit- removed mother board completely and had nothing but proc/mem on it and the two power connections and power switch. Same symptoms.

Try the psu on a different computer to make sure that it's not the new PSU.
If it works, then you know forsure thats some other hardware, MoBo would be my first guess.

I'm ordering another mobo to replace it. Something happened because I've confirmed the old power supply is bad, new one is good.

So I'm guessing something shorted and the mobo and PS took the brunt of it.

my intel pbl915 with an Antec tp 430 had the same symptoms. the cpu fan would spin for a second and then nothing. IIRC the mobo power light would remain lit.

It was a dead mobo but I replaced the psu at that time as well since I suspected that it killed the mobo.

got new motherboard today, same model.

put in video, proc, mem

POST'd right up.

Thanks for the help. I'm not much of a PC guy so it was good to bounce ideas off people.

So my only guess is something shorted, now if I can only get ANTEC to give me a new powersupply/motherboard.
