No posts at all on the Sugar Shane Mosely upset over the weekend?????

I can't believe that amidst all the rubbish posted here, I couldn't find anything from anyone about a major boxing event Saturday night.

Sugar Shane Mosley was ranked the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world prior to this bout.

In the second round, there was an accidental head-butt, that left Shane bleeding, and a little dazed. Soon, after, he was caught with a hard uppercut by Vernon Forrest. He was knocked down twice in the second round. He was never the same throughout the rest of the fight. Even though he seemed to get his legs back in later rounds, he seemed very desperate and frantic, very unlike his usual style.

In the earlier fight, Arturro Gatti made a great showing, displaying his power and quickness. I think he won in the 3rd or 4th round.

Next Saturday night it's Roy Jones Jr. in one fight, and Bernard Hopkins in another fight, both to be seen on HBO.

A great week for boxing fans.

I couldn't tell how they butted heads but Mosley was definitly hurt by that. You could tell the rest of the match he just didn't have his edge and he let Forrest take it to him. He surrvived 12 but there was no doubt he lost. I think if they rematch is 6 months Mosley will kick the crap out of him.

The headbutt made it unclear who the better boxer was. Mosley looked totally insane in the first round. However, one could argue that forrest would still have done well against him by slowing him down with uppercuts and straight rights.

I thought it was a kind of anticlimactic fight after the fourth round or so. Too much grappling (but good strategy by forrest).

I always thought that mosley was a little overrated in terms of the pound for pound list.

In my book, the best is still roy jones. When he prepares properly for a fight, he wins by such a huge margin that it's hard to discount him as the best. Hopkins did look pretty damn good against Tito though.

Sugar blew a Huuuuuggggeeeee pay day by losing. It was already set to fight De La Hoya in rematch after Oscar boxes that punch-drunk Vargas in to retirement.

Roy fights this weekend? Thanks for the heads up.

On a similar note, Roy's new CD was released today. Can't say that I have it or will buy it, but someone might be interested in it.

I was a little suprised, but not much. I did expect it to be close, but the Mosley would win. I've seen Forrest fight a lot and he is an exceptional fighter and I thought Mosley was trying to get to him early before he had a chance to get even better. Too late.

I agree. Why is it that so many people think the best "pound for pound" boxer has to be a guy in a lower weight class?

Roy Jones is 45-1, and the one loss was a DQ when he hit Montell Griffin while Griffin was down. Given that Jones has never actually been -beaten- in the ring, and nobody really wants to fight him, how can he NOT be the best pound for pound fighter?

I think the headbutt has been overstressed. Mosley won the first round, but he didn't dominate. Before the headbutt the fight was pretty even. I don't think it dazed him at all. He seemed upset that he was bleeding for the first time in his pro career, but it didn't look to me like it wobbled him or anything. Other than the blood (which was not in a bad spot at all and did not affect the fight), Forrest probably took as much damage. It looked to me like Forrest was hit above his eye on the headbutt, but fortunately for him didn't bleed. Mosley may have been upset about the headbutt and being cut and that distracted him, but I don't buy that it dazed him and that's why he got clocked later.

I used to think Roy Jones was the best.
Now he just shows up, and displays minimal effort.
He has become so sidetracked with business, that boxing doesn't seem to be in his heart, as it was years back.

Yes, he has great skills, and top notch talent. But I find it disappointing that he isn't fighting more, always finding excuses to turn down a fight here, a fight there.

I'd much rather watch guys like Bones Adams and Ayala, that show up and give it their all, for the whole 12 rounds.

Jones is being paid by the fans to fight, he should fight.

He used to.

Aren't they supposed to give you 5 minutes for the headbutt? Also, what about the low blow in round 7? That really pissed me off, they never stopped it, they didn't even bother deducting points from Forrest, while forrest just kept hittin Mosley. I'm sure Mosley will win in the rematch, every time he went to hit Forrest, Forrest kept grabbing him.

I'm not saying Jones is my favorite fighter. And you're right, whenever I see him now he doesn't look like he's even trying.

The guy who I most enjoy watching is Naseem Hamed. I've never seen such a small boxer throw punches as hard as he does. I am always amazed by him.

I laught at people who think Roy Jones is the pound-for-pound champ. Other than Bernardo Hopkins, a LONG time ago, WHO has he fought? Nobody. If I fought a punch of 5 year olds, I would be the pound for pound champ too. In fact, he has ducked every decent fighter out there especially Darius Michaelzweksi (sp?). And when he does fight, how many KOs do you see? Almost none because he is more concern with not getting hurt and using a minimal amount of effort to win. That why I love it when his Pay-per-View specials bomb (and they do). He deserves it for not being a TRUE champion like Mosley, Trinidad, De La Hoya or any other fighter that puts in all on the line.

<< It's because boxing sucks. Ruined by the money grubbing promoters and the lack of fighting talent.

amish
>>

couldn't agree more.

He hasn't ducked anyone. The german guy refuses to fight in the US. If the guy wants Jones' head, he should come get it. There really aren't many people in or near his weight division worth fighting. Those that were worth fighting, he did, and beat them.

The biggest argument against roy jones is that he hasn't had the *chance* to fight anyone with a big name lately. I'd love to see a hopkins/jones rematch, but hopkins seems to think the onus is on jones, because jones "disrespected" him, whatever that means.

I've only seen him look mediocre in one fight, and he even admitted he didn't prepare much for that one. In his most recent defense, he looked pretty damn good. I've never seen someone who looked that good against mandatory #1 challengers so consistently.

If you want to know just how good he is, how about the fight he had against.. telesco was it? Where his left hand was literally broken and he still beat the guy decisively by using mostly his right hand.

<< and the lack of fighting talent >>

au contraire mon ami

there are some solid boxers floating around right now

they just dont get the publicity that the heavyweights do/did

to name some great ones presently fighting;

Hopkins
Trinidad
Roy Jones, Jr
Mosely
De la Hoya
Barella

and the great thing is; they could probably all fight each other to make some good shows for the fans

I agree about the promoters, though.
I think if Roy Jones isn't gonna put his whole heart into the ring, then at least he should go out and pull some fighters in under his wing and promote them himself. He could probably do a lot for the sport on the business end by breaking up the Don King hold.

But that's just my naive opinion.

The best fight I ever saw was Mosely vs Da La Hoya!

I see a rematch of last weekends match in the near future....😀

I would strongly recommend Adams vs. Ayala coming up in February on HBO.

When they fought last year, it was one of the most admirable showings I have seen.

Another awesome fight recently was Balbi vs. Dorin
