No post or beep from system

Went to change the heat sink on my Athlon 1.4 GHZ and now my system will not even post or even beep at me. I have an ECS K7S5A. I have reseated the memory twice and cleared the CMOS (I even removed the battery and left the jumper on clear overnight) but still nothing. When I turn the power on all the fans spin up and the monitor flickers white from time to time. I don?t have a spare processor or motherboard to tell if it is the motherboard or the processor itself, does anyone have any suggestions for me. Thanks.

Does the system shut itself off a few seconds after you turn it on? If so, make sure you have the cpu fan plugged into the fan 1 header. If it's on the wrong one, some boards power off (thinking theres no cpu fan, and thus a danger of frying the cpu) ... My KT7A's fan1 header is further away from the cpu than fan2, so I did this when I first got it..

If that's not the case, take the heatsink off and have a look at the core.. you may have crushed/cracked it, put the heatsink on backwards, forgot to take the plastic off the thermal pad, any number of things.. If you did that it's probably fried, so lets hope it's just the fan header

Have you tried reseating the video card?

Hopefully the mobo fan header didn't get fired or your CPU damages. What else you can try it to eliminate all the add in cards except the video card, and totally disconnect all the Hd's and cd-r units from the mobo and power connectors. Also work with just 1 stick of ram for now. You should, hopefully, get a video output.

it sounds like you're going to have to take everything apart... and start from scratch.

unplug everything.
and i do mean... everything.

and start from scratch.

reseat cpu and hsf.
plug hsf on mobo.
place just one stick of memory.
hook up your power on button to mobo
plug agp card securely (if you don't want to bother doing the whole thing... i'd check this and memory. k7s5a is notorious for having a picky agp port. it's gotta be plugged in all the way.)
plug ata cable to mobo & hd.(start simple... just one)
plug psu onto mobo and one hd.

clear the cmos one more time
and boot off.

if it doesn't post... then the problem is with your hardware.
considering everything worked right before you changed your hsf...
i'm inclined to think that your harewares are still good..
just not properly seated or connected.

check every jumper.

there's really no easier way.
as i said earlier... try reseating agp card.
just as a side note... sometimes when mobo is not seated on the case correctly...
the screw point contact from pci/agp card does not line up correctly to the case.
so... if you're really desperate...
i'd try everything outside of the case. just be careful when you do.
