Hi -
Thanx for looking.

The problem -
I am putting [trying to] put this system together.
amd 3000+ 333mhz
MSI mobo [km4m-l]
512DDR crucial 2700
I won't even bother about the rest, cos it doesn't matter for now.

The computer won't post at all, and nothing comes up on the monitor [just keeps flashing at me saying come on, connect something to me then, I'm bored]

With everything hooked up, the cpu fan spins for a couple of seconds, slows down, then goes on for another second, then everything switches off.
If I disconnect the CPU power [the little square 4 pin], then everything stays on, but no post.

Is this a problem with the mobo, or the cpu.
I have tried 2 different power supplies, [Tsunami and Antec] both 350watts, and I think I have managed to kill the antec!

Any ideas pls.

Oh yeah, I've tried disconnecting everything and plugging it all in one thing at a time.
Tried the mobo out of the case, [that was when the antec died laughing].
Tried the RAM things.
The only thing I havent tried is another cpu, and i dont want to do that cos the only other one that i got is in this computer.
Cheers for now.

Sounds like you might have a DOA processor. When I annihilated my 1.3 TBird, that is exactly what it did - turned on for a few seconds then switched off. It might not neccesarily be dead, though, so I'd try it in another board.

Thanx for that,
Do you think it would be safer to try another cpu in the new mobo, or the suspect new cpu in my old poota [it all fits, just different fsb]?

If you don't answer and you see a lot of smoke in the distance, i made the wrong choice
;-))
Thanx

The cpu is buggered = I tried the cpu in a working system - OUT
I tried the working cpu in the new poota - worked the first time, then wouldn't after that. BYE BYE mobo.
Am rma'ing the cpu and getting a different mobo.

Best of luck
