No phone number prefix only?

Lately I've been getting phone calls on my cell phone with the area code of 508. No number just the prefix. Don't know anyone in that neck of the woods and it's starting to get annoying. Might just have to answer my phone one of these days. Anyone else get these.

When Fedex called me to confirm a package I was picking up it was a 3 digit phone number only.

I didn't answer it the first time and they left a voicemail so I knew to answer it the next time they called.

I sometimes get calls from my university and instead of the main number, my cell phone shows the extension that's calling me. Weird eh? Is this a case of misconfigured PBXes?

With IP phones especially you can set the number they 'report' to caller id.

Sometimes I get calls from 000-000-0000. Very strange, but I'm too scared to answer.

Probably a police department.

Really? I wonder why. Maybe I'll have to pick up next time.

Anyone want me to set my caller ID on my office phone to anything they want and have me call so they can have that number in their history? maybe to play a joke on someone... 202-867-5309 maybe?
