Where did you read about this? I was just at http://www.overclockers.com and their best guess is that the roadmap is outdated. A recent AMD roadmap states that there are Palomino samples now, and should have production in 1Q'01.

And it'll probably take at least 2-3 months for them to hit store shelves, after high volume manufacturing has begun.

All I want in the a new K7 core is 128kb/128kb L1 and 512kb 256-bit L2.

Using SSE2 would require building a new core or would require too many design changes. Although that would be really good.

Okay, now. Don't be dissing the Blue Man Group. :) I think they're the coolest advertising campaign (well, coolest use. I know they're not a creation of Intel but it was still a good idea to use them) a tech company has ever started. If AMD could get some "little green men" on the TV they could probably do a lot better.

BTW, as long as this chip is out by August I'm happy. I refuse to come back to school with this dinky 850 next semester. :) A 1.5ghz version would be nice, but Ace's article said it'd debut at 1.4ghz. Oh well.

Fwiw... Blue Man Group has been Intel's most successful advertising campaign ever. Even more popular than the "Dancing Bunny Suits".

I saw them on some awards show with a soul singer and Moby. I think it was a glimpse into the future of music.

The Blue Man Group has been performing in New York FOREVER. I should go check out their show one of these days.
