No one gets Snapdragon 835 except Samsung.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/bensin/...agon-835-because-the-galaxy-s8-has-first-dips

A couple days ago I wrote a piece about the HTC U Ultra, wondering why HTC would release a Snapdragon 821 phone in 2017 when the rumor has LG and Samsung dropping Snapdragon 835 flagships in as little as a month.

Well, I've spoken to some industry insiders in Asia today and I must apologize to HTC, because it would appear that the 835 is out of their reach until after April, so they couldn't have used the 835 without drastically delaying the phone. In fact, that's the case with almost all phones, including LG's flagship. Yup, I have confirmed with an industry insider that the LG G6 will run on Snapdragon 821 instead of the 835 that everyone's expecting.

The reason? Samsung has first dibs.

"The Snapdragon 835 won't be available in large quantities until after the Galaxy S8 launches," the source told me.

I guess this shouldn't really be this big of a surprise, since Samsung is helping Qualcomm build the chip. Apparently, the 835 won't be widely available until after the release of the Galaxy S8, which I've been told by the same source will be April 14 in South Korea.

Obviously I can't reveal who my source is, but I've been traveling around Asia visiting phone companies, and this person has first hand knowledge, so to me, this isn't really a rumor but a leak: the LG G6 will run on Snapdragon 821.

LG has proven in the past it doesn't really stress too much about using the latest chip. Two years ago, its G4 opted for the Snapdragon 808 instead of the 810 that was available due to concerns about overheating. When I visited LG headquarters last December, one of the people told me it's more important to have a "proven SoC that they can test thoroughly than the latest, fastest," because mobile tech has improved to a point that the differences between two chips released half a year apart may be negligible anyway.

Whether or not the 835 really is a big improvement over the 821 remains to be seen, but this year, LG must rely on other factors to promote its G6 against the S8. Rumors of the G6 perhaps getting the Pixel's Google Assistant should help. The G6 is also expected to have very slim bezels and bring back the dual-camera with the wide-angle lens, the latter of which I find very useful.

It was scheduled from the beginning that there would not be any phone with the SD835 in the market in this quarter. There is no need for "research" or this kind of articles to look smart lol. And the reason is very simple, the soc just started mass production in the new 10nm node and there is no enough volume ready.

The loss of OMAP and Texas Instruments providing alternate ARM designs is really being felt now. I wonder what the monopolistic investigations into Qualcomm will reveal.

Would have been nice to have A73 phones that weren't Qualcomm or Exynos.

Wasn't windows just recently announcing windows x86 32 bit on arm? If I recall it was specifically a snapdragon. Would this not be a Snapdragon 835 or are you just arguing that it would come out later and not in the near future?

There was a demo with the Snapdragon 820 but it was just for testing, the 835 will be used with Windows in market products ( you can see in the spec sheet that it supports Direct X12 as well as vulkan of course ).

So Samaung has bought the whole first production run of 835 and also has to stockpile thier own Exynos 8895? That's a lot of phones, wonder if the 835 will be for US and International version will have the 8895 (crosses fingers for the 8895).

So the only other SOC at 10 nm to show up is the Helio X30 and that would be free for everyone who wants... maybe time for Xiaomi to debut that processor on the world?

Whatever happened to LG's custom processor that Intel was supposed to be fabbing at 10nm?

Intel 10nm is not ready yet.
Yeah, but LG was also believed to be developing their "NUCLUN 2" SoC on Intel's 14nm fab which was supposed to debut on the V10/V20 flagship line. Haven't heard anything about it since late 2015.

Rumours, intel didn't open their fabs until now. And it seems LG failed to design a competitive SOC, it is not as easy as some people think.

Is it just me or are those two very different statements?

Quite right. One is a click-bait headline only meant to grab your attention and spread misinformed panic among those who don't read the article it highlights. Nothing out of the ordinary here.

Xiaomi managed to snap their own Pinecone Processor and is supposed to land with the Mi5C and initially was supposed to land on the previous CES 2017.
