No one at overclock.net or tomshardware know how to fix this =(

Hello, and thanks in advance even if we don't figure it out as no one else in the overclocking world apparently knows...

Here is my set up
2500k
gigabyte ga z68x ud3h b3
2x4g ripjaws 1600
750w bronze rated
zotac 560ti
if you need other components let me know

I try overclocking by setting my
multiplier to 45 (4.5 ghz) steps
set at 4
vcore set at 1.35
pll set at 1.1
disable c1e disable all c3/c6 state disable eist

when i go to run this windows won't boot =\ just goes into an infinite loop

when i reset everything to normal it boots fine... this should be a relatively simple oc... please let me know what im doing incorrectly

i tried again with a simple 4 ghz overclock with no changes... still went into loop

thanks from a frustrated noob

honestly i dont even care if this works... you are the first person on any of the top tech forums to bother to respond to me... for that i thank you so much... i was getting pretty frustrated at the lack of response from those much larger sites... i'll be perusing here from now on

Why don't you start with a lower multiplier, increase the multiplier it each time the system is stable. When the system is unstable at X multiplier, increase voltage until it is stable.

I have to say I have been really happy and amazed a the helpfullness, knowledge and response every time I have posted a technical question on these forums. I dont even look at other forum any more.

better question to ask is do you even know what PLL voltage is?

Hello jaedaddy, and welcome to AnandTech Forums.

I suggest you start over. Clear BIOS and then start your overclocking adventures with everything set to AUTO except the Turbo multiplier set to 40x for 4GHz overclock. Then, start raising it 1x at a time, testing at every interval.

Perhaps you should wait more than an hour before getting frustrated?

Welcome to the forums jaedaddy!

disable c1e disable all c3/c6 state disable eist

Not this.

I've noticed the same problem as you if I disable all power saving states. Try not touching the cstates.

This.

There's absolutely no reason to disable all the power-management features of today's modern CPU's even when OC'ing them. Disabling them only invites trouble at this juncture.

Agreed . We have some pretty sharp guys here from Toms and have made a great addition to ATs forum . We may not see eye to eye but that doesn't change the fact they understand their PCs rather well.

Ya I run my browser with all features on and c6

But my gamer 2600k I have them all turned off. Completely differant kinds of O/Cs . I use MSI m/bs exclusively or I should say my daughter does . Op needs to turn all on and use C6. and set. pll to stock at least

it is entirely possible that you just got a really weak chip. With that being said it would be REALLY weak to not do 4.0ghz. It could always be a flaky motherboard or something. First though i would swap some components around, especially the power supply. If you don't have another supply to test with, then jerk the video card and test if you have onboard connectors. I know some of the gigbatye boards don't...

Come on Aig . The guy is asking for help . I suppose you were born with this knowledge I understand your responding as a poster . But you are a mod and I voted for ya. I expect better from you than this.

Do what I don't care said and set your pll v correctlly and Start with 1.37 V . after your up and running reduce voltage to 1.36 . and if your pleased with that . Than try 1.35v

its only been an hour here.. on other sites its been much longer... but thank you for your input... came back from a student's volleyball match and working on it now

is there a way to upvote helpful people in this forum?... also status update...

i am now at 3.5ghz and inching my way upward

EDIT2: 3.7 holdin steady

EDIT3: 3.9 holding steady (how come sometimes i can simply oc from 3.3 to 4.7 in one swoop and other times i have to do this?)

EDIT4: 4.0 reach holding stable!!! yayyy slow and steady...

EDIT5: 4.3 and stable at 10 minutes on prime 95... once i hit 4.7 i'll do a full 20 min test... temps lookin good vcore at 1.355

Final edit: apparently gigabyte has this boot loop problem for a lot of boards... its ok i guess im ok with 4.3.. i really wanted to push it to 4.7 but every single time i hit 4.4 it boot loops and i have to set it to defaults and inch my way up again... NOT WORTH IT 4.3~ meh

Its never over till its over. If you haven't set your V-drop control as yet . You will likely get 4.5ghz with present setting.

"disable c1e disable all c3/c6 state disable eist"

^ Make sure to Enable all of those 🙂

Download HWMonitor. Start Prime95 or LinX and then load HWMonitor for 15-20 minutes and make sure your low Vcore doesn't deviate too much from avg. If it does, that means you need to set Load Line calibration to Extreme/Ultra (w/e setting your board has). Also, make sure your RAM is not being overclocked.
