No onboard sound

Hello,

I'm building a system for my sister and right when I was about to ship it out to her I checked to see if sound would work. Well luckily I did and I caught it before I packed and sealed it off to UPS.

I'm trying to get the system to work off of the onboard sound card. Yet I get nothing when I plug in my own speakers or my headphones in the green plug. Is there a setting in Device Manager that I need to adjust? I tried looking but didn't find anything. Although I have been proven wrong multiple times on these boards 🙂

Perhaps there is a setting in the BIOS to enable onboard sound. But I also checked that and it said that AC 97 sound control was enabled (I'm assuming that's the control for the onboard sound. Could it be possible that the onboard sound component is dead? I mean it is a pretty old motherboard and I took it off one of my old systems that had a creative card instead of running off the mobo.

So what's a surefire way of finding out if my onboard sound actually works and doesn't?

You said you only checked one plug. I'm not familar with the motherboard, on mine, depending on the settings, a plug will put out sound to my speakers but if I change them suddenly there is no sound. This may not solve your problem, but it is something simple at least.

I have installed all the drivers for my mobo and i tried multiple connections through my speakers (the yellow, black, and green plugs AND even through the optical output) and headphones. If no one can suggest anything then I will just pick up some cheap sound card and put it in.

Is your wave or volume control settings muted or turned all the way down in volume?

Does a playback device showup in sound and multimedia in the control panel

I just checked the control panel and the system is recognizing that there is a sound device called "Realtek AC97" I am almost certain that this is indeed the onboard audio component. So does this for sure mean that my onboard audio doesnt work? Is there yet another thing that I can check? And yes I checked all of the volume controls and adjustments.

Can you try playing some music through the cd (the cd - audio cable is plugged in, right?), and can you go into CONTROL PANEL, SOUNDS and just play one of the beepy things - just to make sure.
