sup all... I was wondering if anyone else found some strange problem with Prototype... The game doesnt like OC, why? because if you OC in your bios... or OC your gpu... only a little. the game will hard crash your computer, in a really bad way, only a slight OC from 200 base speed to 201, lol will crash the crap out of the game,, randomly walking around, turn back stock speeds and game for hours...

New Post: What to do with all those EP points after getting all powers and such...

Um, that should not be true at all.

Well, some games (engines) are more sensible to OC'ing than others, but theoretically if your system is entirely stable then games shouldn't crash. Then maybe the software itself isn't stable anyway, OC or not, it may just be a coincidence that you OC and the game crashes, that's also possible.

I can OC the processor and GPU and everything runs fine... well... almost fine... if too much OC is applied, then a few problems appear from now and then, but is pretty much fine with OC, but PROTOTYPE, is... whats this... 3000mhz is the stock speed and this one is running at 3001mhz, I am SO GOING TO HANG IN A MEANNY WAY!!!!

yeah but it only crash with the OC and runs fine with out it... lol! and runs really well in stock speed this game... Too bad is plague with bugs like sound problems, HID problems, and so on! The game is really buggy, maybe a patch let it OC,

I know others games doesnt like OC, like Mirrors Edge doesnt like GPU OC, but Crysis love it....

Just leave everything at stock for Prototype if you're not sure, over-clocking isn't going to give you 30 extra FPS anyway, OC'ing is giving tangible results in synthetic benchmarks more than in actual games, and if the performance isn't good enough for you then just lower the in-game settings, that way you'll know that if it crashes then it has to be something with the software, mostly (can always be something with drivers or other conflicting software running in the background too, personal computers and gaming are bastards to keep good condition and stability of).

Well, I know Dead Space had reproducible lockups with OCed graphics cards, so it wouldn't surprise me if the same were true for another lackluster console port...

I just installed and played prototype for ~2 hours on an overclocked CPU / GPU without any problems.

E7200 @ 3.8GHz, 8800GT @ 675/955 (182.50), XP SP3. Not exactly a monster overclock on the GPU, but it is a vanilla GT so an overclock none the less.

Been playing for 3 days in bursts of 2-5 hours (I'm hooked). NOT ONE CRASH, not one slowdown, not one hiccup or clipping issue either. Outside of Mercer's animations, the game is far from beautiful but given the rock solid stability and framerate, they might have made the right choice to focus on the insane variety of offensive gameplay.

CPU: E4300 1.8ghz OC'd to 3.0ghz
GPU: GTX260 575mhz stock OCd to 635mhz

This is by FAR my favorite game so far this year.

i have experienced no bugs with this game. as i said in the other thread, the actual programming of the game is buttery smooth, it's the content that blows chunks.'

and i'm also playing on an overclocked e7200 and 8800gt.

The problem with overclocking is that people will prematurely label their system "stable" once overclocked. And when it finally does overheat and crash hard, they claim it to be a software problem. This is why OCing is so freakin dangerous. People need to know ALL their temps, not just.

Even when they perform a looping test, it all depends the strain that looping test puts on your system. Memory, HD, CPU, All sorts of components can heat up and create a high ambient temperature or a hot spot within your case that could end up overheating a specific component, like your south bridge.

It's not that it doesn't like overclocking, it's that it doesn't like instability. Fix the instability, lower the overclock.

It's funny actually. I had exactly the same problem. And after a few such crashes, my video started dying. (I am not kidding!) Windows became unbootable, blue lines and artifacts across the screen (Even during POST and in BIOS), BSODS, you name it...

Prior to this my PC was 100% stable for years, in every way.

I was about to throw away my card, but at the last moment I was able to save it using a very unorthodox method.. (see in sig)

If I was ever to find out that it was indeed a GAME(Prototype) that killed my video card, I'd be pretty pissed off.

nVidia had a lot of faulty chips for notebooks, maybe they made a bunch of faulty ones for desktop, too?

You are the first person I have seen say the game is really buggy. I suspect you have some issues with that pc. If a game only has problems when you OC that is the hardware not the software. Programming doesn't work that way. A cpu processes the same instructions whether it is under/normal/over clocked, if it didn't it would be useless.

What is likely happening is that the game is sending a lot of data over the bus and if even one bit gets corrupted that can cause problems.

Run memtest and prime95 with multiple instances to see what is going on .

Also recommend doing a gaming only OS install. I have one set up that has nothing but the required drivers to play games. No other processes are installed on that OS. Just winxp with no anti virus, no instant messengers or anything not absolutely necessary for the game to play.

Is running fine now... with no OC in the processor nor memory.... temps seems to be fine.. I think the problem was something to do with the memory latencies... too fast, making the skew problem appear!

after turning off the external clock OC... everything runs fine, manage to finished up the game in 20 hours straight... the problem now is... What to do with all those EP points after getting all powers and such...

by the way it runs great with full settings with out OC, it doesnt like OC, or skew screwup, but it doesnt need it at all!!! LOL!!!!!

LoL, how long did you bake it for and at what temp?
