Hi,
I'm using a Via mobo and 768MB SDR ram with a P4 1.7Ghz and ASUS GeForce FX 5200.
when i start up my system, why don't i get all the info on my gfx card like my friend does about his gf3??

Is it bcos i'm a via user or bcos i have fx5200? Sorry! i coulden't figure out where 2 post this:
in mobos forum or in video frum. so i posted it here.

dont worry about it

i think you mean the VGA bios posting and showing you a post screen before your computer actually shows its boot screen? my leadtek 6800GT posted its VGA bios too it was the very first thing i saw at start up, told me the amount of ram, gpu type etc had some basic leadtek graphics in it then my asus mobo would show its post screen telling me about ram, hard drives etc correct?

dont worry about it, its not critical, infact even most mobo's today dont bother with it per se....they jus show u a rubbish 8bit image instead. (though you can turn it off....so im guessing its the manufacturers choice wether to leave it on for the video card or not)

my new 7800GT's dont show any bios screen when i turn on, and i havent really moved platform at all ie Nvidia NF3 to NF4.

seriously dude dont worry, theres nothing wrong at all, long as you can into windows and play games and what not then theres nothing to fear

My 5200 didnt, my 6600 GT didnt and my 7800 GTX didnt.

Its usually only older cards that do it.

The theory I've always had was that it was since the older cards were slower and took longer to configure their bios.

It's an option in the BIOS whether or not the VGA info is shown on system POST. Most new cards don't have that option enabled anymore, though you can mod your BIOS to do so if you truly need to see that information every time you start your system.

Thankx verry much to all!

I was verry worried since my friend was bugging me by telling me that something must be wrong with ur card! Now, I can show him this post and shut him up forever!!

Also, I would like to ask that i do have an entry in my bios which says "Init Display First" and there are two choices: AGP or PCI Slot. When I brushed through my mobo's manual, they haden;t mentioned anything about it. I'm in a fix as to what it should be.
Please help me out! Note:- When I load "Optimized defults for that BIOS Entry, it seclects "PCI SLOT". I have Award BIOS on a VIA P4M266 mobo.
