No nutrition facts on alcohol... wtf?

This actually bothers me too. I want to know which light beer is the lightest...not really because it would change my drinking decisions, but because I just want to know.

A couple friends mentioned this not too long ago... It would be nice to know what's exactly in there.

I'm not even a drinker, I drank when I turned 21 over a year ago... I do have a bottle of Amaretto that someone gave me for christmas that I take a swig of now and then though.

There is info on it on the top small label on the beer bottle..

it's not in the graph form you're used to though...

I called up a couple of places once - call the number on the bottle and the place will tell you. Basically all the light beers are in the 90-110 range, for instance.

But dood! What about the carbs man?!!?

Huh, I've never noticed this.

Are you saying cans of beer don't have nutrition info on them? 😕

I swear they do.

As for bottles, isn't it usually on the box?

I've seen some with and some without as far as cans and 40ozs and such.

3-6ish 🙂

I'd suggest that you ask your bartender the next time you're at the bar... preferrably with lots of hot chix nearby. They will be impressed that you are concerned about your weight and then they will begin to be concerned about theirs and will wish to do anything resembling exercise soon.

I've wondered about this too. Most alcohol drinks have quite a few calories. How are they not required to label this information like most other foods? If bottled water is required to have nutrition labeling, WTF isn't alcohol?

It's probably on the box as someone previously said.

I think all the light beers have the nutritional info on them. So that you can compare. This weekend I had Miller Lite, Bud Lite and Michelob Lite(hey I was celebratin') and each one of them had the carbs and calories on the side, along with some other things I was too drunk to remember.

Because the FDA only covers food and not alcohol, so their nutrition label is not applicable to alcohol. The BATF handles alcohol. And the nutrition label only applies to prepared foods and not natural foods, ie, in their raw form.

But what about things like Vodka? I have a couple different brands at home and neither one has a nutritional label. I don't know how it's shipped to the store, but it wouldn't make sense to put the information on the shipping box if it is to be sold by the bottle. Again, each individual bottle of water has this information even if packaged in bulk.

I just wonder how they (the industry) has avoided being forced to have these labels for all these years. Also, alcohol goes through a lot of processing (filtering and such), I hardly consider it to be in it's natural form. No more so than something like sugar or salt, both of which have labels. [edit] Oh yeah, and my original example: water. How is water not in its natural form? Yet it has labels. I personally think alcohol should as well.

Hmm.. Had to check. Indeed, neither the bottle of Stoli's or peach schnappz has any sort of nutrition info on them.

Weird.

Are you guys going to massively hysterical over this, lol? If you want vindication that it's weird that liquor doesn't have nutritional info on it, then yes, you are right. But when you're boozing are you looking at how many calories, etc. you're consuming and do you really care? Personally I don't.

i would like to see some standard labeling too. cals, carbs, sugars etc. i would also like to see some info on alcohol content! some beverages state it, but for the ones that dont, im always interested in this info (but not interested enough to call someone (and rarely interested enough to look it up on the internet)).

If you're so worried about calories/etc. in alcoholic beverages then you really don't need to be drinking them anyway. The alcohol itself is a lot worse than the caloric content.

Well, I really noticed this a couple of months ago when I started trying to get into shape a couple of months ago (down from 224 to 191 so far.... woo hoo!). Anyway, I enjoy vodka quite a bit... straight, mixed with various fruit juices, whatever.... I had heard it had a lot of calories so I looked at the bottle when I went to have a drink and was a bit pissed the information wasn't on there. I'm sure it doesn't matter to most people, but since I was trying to watch my calorie intake I really wanted to know.

I'm really only drink 1 -2 times per week, but when you are monitoring calories day to day it would useful information to know.
