I'll have Nougat on my OPO before too long. There are already promising builds floating around in a few places.

Yup, my less than 2 years old and perfectly functional xperia z3c won't get nougat because either qualcomm or google (or both) don't car to support 2014 flagship SoC.

That's it, my next phone is an iPhone; if they can't get around to fix the Android ecosystem they can't expect to get my money.

I feel like we're missing something significant. Otherwise why wouldn't Google themselves simply pay QC to provide the necessary drivers - the cost would hardly be meaningful to them compared to the reputation hit.

I feel like a previous article focusing on encryption and the lack of hardware support in the S800/S801 vs the S805 and above is closer to the truth. Google has apparently decided that this has to become mandatory and letting the huge number of S800/S801 devices to get Nougat would delay widespread adoption for at least another year.

Probably because Google understands that the end result will be the same, the OEMs still won't bother to supply the updates in the vast majority of cases. The only difference is who gets the blame…QC for not doing the drivers or OEMs for not making the updates.
