like doom3 runs "fine" on a Radeon 8500. 😛

that's what id says (said).

i tried running d3 on rigs with gf4mx and fx5200 cards in them (AXp2500/512mbof ram) which was apparently playable according to id, but i couldn't get them faster than 16-18fps with everything turned down/off at 600*600, so i don't really have a very high opinion of minimum specs😛

expect unreal3 to 'run' on a 6600 - like that. 😉

We'll see.

This is a "duh" sugesstion but I'm gonna suggest it anyway.

EQ2 likes a freqently defraged drive for two reasons.

1.) It has many tiny files that are scatterd about (by the patcher)
2.) It uses a boatload of virtual memory.

There are some hardcore 3rd party defrag programs that can defrag your swap space. If you specify a "static" swap space there will be less of a chance that it will get scatterd.

2GB of memory would surely do the job for EQ2, I can get by fine with 1GB and my zone times are fast (less than 10 seconds easy). In task manager I see EQ2 useing around 600mb peak memory usage and about 600mb in the swap so my guess is 2gb would help. A pair of fast hard drives in raid 0 will help too.

Good point on defragging, I do need to do that more. The raptors run around 80
GB, right? Could you fit EQ2 and your OS on one raptor?

I have a 36GB raptor for my OS and swapfile. A 250GB 16MB cache Maxtor for apps and storage.

The 36GB raptor has been on sale at Frys/Outpost off and on for months for $90....makes both performance and storage non-issues.

It seems that with a game like EQ2, where you are doing a lot of hard drive access during zone loads, you would want the game on your raptor as well. If I go with the 72GB raptor, I should be able to fit both though.
