No need to install 4-in-1 for new mobo w/ XP Pro?

I naturally assumed I'd need to install the Via 4-in-1 drivers for my new A7V333 when putting together my system. However, I just read that it's not necessary. Is that true?

winxp has via drivers built in 🙂

but the newest 4in1's will have newer drivers then winxp... so if your going to use the 4in1's make sure you get the newest version (personally i would still install the 4in1's)

newer drivers in general tend to have more features/stability/fixes/performance (im not saying the new 4in1's will have all of those advantages, but should have at least some)

i cant think of any disadvantages

I have not updated to the newest 4n1..version 4.38...supposedly the winxp installer is a problem...anyway..I updated from the built 4n1 4.33 in winxp pro..to 4.37 with several versions in between...I have seen no issues development..but have seen no performance improvements....

there is a separate via agp driver that may improve performance...I updated to version 4.05 but not sure 4.10..can remeber exactly..no problems doing so..but I did not see the improved performance either...I guess I am not sensitive enough to small increases...

I say if there are no problems just use the built 4.33 4n1 and do not upgrade...there is always a risk of new issues...

others may disagree and find more performance enhancements than me but I see little changes..I am still using 3281 drivers on my Radeon from Nov 2001..speed is great and image looks fine.. I used to upgrade with every new driver but this only seemed to lead to new problems..so I have now take n the attitude if it is not broken do not fix...

My system is running smooth and games look and run fine....anyway this is my opinion only

This question comes up all the time and the bottom line is there`s no right or wrong answer,it`s down to what works for your system,in my case I`ve installed all the VIA 4 in 1 driver updates from 4.34 to the latest 4.38 in WinXP,I`ve also installed the latest VIA 1.10 USB filter driver.

The only reason I always install them is I like to have the latest drivers installed & they are newer then the ones built-in WinXP, I`ve never had any problems before or after the updates.

You don`t have to install them since as already meantioned XP has built-in VIA support and some would say if its not broken why try to fix it.

The newer VIA AGP driver 4.10(in VIA 4.38 drivers) did give me a slightly better benchmark speed.
