no need for windows (almost)

jhu

since the beginning of the school year, i can easily count the number times i've only booted to windows to play fallout tactics, quake 3, and serious sam. that's it!

I was windows free at home for over a year, but I had to go back to dual-booting with Win2K cuz I need a good CAD/architecture program for a couple months. 🙁

Good for you...I am almost there. Unfortunately, I have to dual-boot cause my Dad really needs windows for stuff like quickbooks for now

Good for you man. I havn't booted into windows in 6 months now. That streak will end when i get the itch to game again though............

the fact remains that if you have some video formats or games, Windows does them better. my Windows box crashed and died yesterday and I'm still trying to figure out why, but I realized very quickly how attached I am to Windows just for watching videos and playing games. I ended up setting up my old C400 just so I could watch a video while I fell asleep. I even have OS X but there's some things that still work better in Windows.

I have a ps2 for games. The only thing I need windows for is some video files because Ive been too lazy to figure out how to run them on other OSes. But I cant/dont do that often because I dont own a Windows machine 😀

yeah, i was using windows for fallout 2, but i got bored and i dont think i'll reinstall it anyways (just repartitioned and reinstalled 'dows). basically anything i cant do in linux now, i just dont do it. i havent set up cd burning yet, but i plan on it. i pretty much just 'deal' with not watching video formats that wont work. actually, there are players that will play quicktime and WMV and whatnot, i'm just too lazy to deal with it. and for WMV, i have WMP installed under wine (i tried just for the hell of it and it actually worked 😛, although not all formats play correctly)

basically the only thing that puts me in windows anymore is when i cant figure out how to get my net connection working, but that shouldnt be a prob now that i know how to set up for both dhcp and static ip addressing. hopefully i wont have to switch to dsl anytime soon.
