The highlights of the agreement include:

? A 19-year-old age minimum OR one year out of high school would be implemented for entry into the NBA draft. Players who are not 19 by draft night would be ineligible to declare for the draft. Under current rules, American players are eligible for the draft the year their high school class graduates. Foreign players must be 18 by draft night.

? Contract lengths would be reduced one year. Currently, players can sign a fully guaranteed contract for a maximum of seven years if they re-sign with their current team. Players signing with a new team in free agency can sign a six-year deal. Under the new proposal, maxiumum contract lengths would shorten to five years for players signing with new teams and six years for players re-signing with their current team.

? Raises in contracts would be reduced. Under the current CBA, players are allowed maximum raises of 12.5 percent per year if they re-sign with their current team and 10 percent if they sign with a different team in free agency. Under the new proposal, raises would be reduced to 10 percent if a player re-signs with his current team and 8 percent if they sign with a different team in free agency.

? A revamped drug policy would allow all players to be randomly tested four times each season.

It was not immediateily clear if several other elements, which had been proposed Monday night, were included in Tuesday's agreement.

Eat your heart out nhl fans. ;)

did the owners give anything up? seems like all those provisions are worse for the players than the current CBA

Nope. Salary cap is now 51% of basketball-related income up from 48%

Age rule stinks. I don't see any problems with the rest of them. At least the players were smart enough to realize that if they held out, the NBA would probably tank like the NHL. Most all pro players are crybabies anyway.

I'm for the age rule because too many kids are expecting to go straight to the nba and saying the hell with hs. I really think its best, and may encourage them to plan to attend a college for atleast a year and thus graduate hs.

And? So the NBA needs to regulate parents that can't properly raise their kids? The NBA/NHL/NFL/MLB should take into their league anyone they want as long as they are 18. It's not their fault kids have unreasonable expectations.

You NBA fans should be appreciative of how screwed up the NHL CBA negotiations went...

Because of that, the players and owners of other sports saw that seasons CAN be lost if both sides don't work together.

Damn, I was hoping the NBA would self-destruct just like the NHL has done. Maybe then we can get rid of these ridiculous sports monopolies.

what's the point of the 19 age limit.
Most of these players that come out of HS are probably in their 20's

No, its not the league's fault, I think there are lots of factors, including parents, but its good to see the cba help the situation. There are obviously other factors that the league wanted this, but it is what it is.

Not doubt the collapse of the nhl was a huge impetus to get things done. Ironic tho, the nba can learn from the nhl's mistakes, but the nhl players union can't learn from other leagues...that the salary cap works.

and I feel bad for Andrew Bynum, a top prospect coming out of New Jersey. he's 17 and now then, he has to wait for a year to get drafted. but he's gonna rule at UCONN next year.
