No name task locking up/crashing

I'm starting to get a no name task sometimes crashing/locking up. It brings up the end task screen but has no name. It also happened when a game crashed and when my VC++ compiler crashed. Could this be a spy app or is this a known problem? Any way to find out what this task is? Running Win98.

sometimes the end task popup screen doesn't tell the name, but the task manager will, have you updated your virus definitions recently?
 
Yeah they're updated, but I had been away from my computer for awhile and it didn't have any anti-virus(ppl had access to computer too 😱). I think I've checked task manager and it didn't list anything. I'll check again when it happens.

Any apps that you can think of that will show no name task either when running or when it locks up?
